i am having trouble articulating this but a system that excuses gang rape as a youthful error on behalf of college men with ~ bright futures ~ does so because it is served by producing older men who are comfortable with, even enthusiastic about, torturing people at the system's behest

Michael Tracey is actively attempting to dox Jane Doe in the Cornell 7 rape case
Michael Tracey : If you happen to know who this Cornell "Jane Doe" is, get in touch and I would be happy to publish her name and identifying information. And yes -- this is 100% permitted under the First Amendment, whatever threats or emotional blackmail people might want to deploy"Report" me for what, exactly? Save your breath, scumbag. Sorry you hate the First Amendment so much. Her identity is obviously newsworthy at this point, and I will take extreme pleasure in reporting it. (Not "doxing" -- that's a total canard)

I’m going away on vacation in a few weeks. This would be a tremendously bad time to introduce a new kitten into the household. This is probably the last kitten left, his litter mates have been claimed. Spicy little man needs a home.
A fluffy gray tabby kitten sits on the top of beige cat tree. He has the most adorable angry expression. I love him.

The GOP cut funding to the IRS because *audits work* and they fundamentally don't believe rich people should have to play by the rules.
Line chart titled "Revenue per audit," subtitled "In-person audits, 2010-2014." It plots average revenue and average cost per audit by taxpayer income percentile, poorer to richer, from the 0–5th percentile to the top 0.1%. Source: Boning et al. 2023, "A Welfare Analysis of Tax Audits Across the Income Distribution."

Across the bottom half of the income distribution, revenue and cost track closely, both around $3,000–$6,000 per audit. Above the median, revenue pulls ahead of cost: about $10,000 vs. $5,000 near the 90th percentile, and about $17,000 vs. $8,000 at the 95th–99th. At the top, revenue jumps to about $31,000 for the 99–99.9th percentile and about $90,000 for the top 0.1%.

To add to this: Laws aren't designed for justice, they're designed for enforcing the status quo. When the status quo is that you can pay for gentler treatment, you get a class of assholes who don't believe in consequences. It is a treatment opposed to the social contract, and that has consequences.

America had wiped out measles. Now babies are infected at birth.
Congenital measles has rarely been seen in the U.S. That’s changing as vaccination declines and more pregnant women become infected.

French marine biologist Jeanne Villepreux-Power invented the first glass aquarium for scientific study in 1832. Her sealed tanks (with aeration & water stability) enabled live observation of sea creatures, which was revolutionary in marine research. She was born #OTD in 1794. #WomenInSTEM
Sepia-toned 1861 photograph by André-Adolphe-Eugène Disdéri of Jeanne Villepreux-Power (1794–1871), pioneering French marine biologist and inventor of the glass aquarium. She stands in three-quarter profile facing left, leaning elegantly on a tall decorative pedestal vase adorned with flowers. She wears a formal Victorian gown with a fitted bodice of intricate black lace over dark fabric, long lace sleeves, and a voluminous hoop-skirted skirt. Her dark hair is styled in a low chignon, and she gazes thoughtfully to the side in a studio setting with a neutral backdrop.

From Create Mode >
If the pictures of my friends and me getting arrested in protest of Netanyahu's shameful visit to New York draw attention to anything, let it be to the devastating genocidal war Israel is waging against the people of Palestine and Southern Lebanon-to the settler attacks, the home demolitions, the bombing of people as they sleep; to the crimes that happen every SINGLE day but garner almost no international press coverage. The US government has the power to bring an end to all of this killing, pillaging, and land theft, yet instead it chooses to welcome the butcher of Gaza with open arms. The fact that the orchestrator of all this bloodshed is roaming freely in our cities is an indictment of BOTH REPUBLICANS AND DEMOCRATS who enable and protect architects of genocide like netanyahu.
Let us not mistake the spectacle for the story: genocide is the headline, and it is time for it to endhannaheinbinder >
