Seems like everyone has forgotten about PARASOL... Which already did this over a decade ago! :-)

ESCAPADE X-Band from @amsatdl Bochum with some ASCII data. Turbo 1115 + CRC, the usual. Funny structure though...

In much older versions (anything pre-2.0.0 potentially), this change will also trigger a bug causing a crash. Not much I can do either, never expected this kind of change.

Following changes by @celestrak.bsky.social, it's possible some users of SatDump (I've already gotten reports, especially for anyone running more than a single SatDump instance) will experience issues updating TLEs. I have no easy way to fix this at the moment...

Yep. GNU Radio for what I need it to do has become a bit more cumbersome than I like things to be, so I decided to instead spend some time to do something that'll work for what I need. Of course the goal isn't replacing GR overall by any means!

Maybe Creil if it really is north? But not exactly close either. More likely to just be east/south and go around via la Grande Ceinture.

Happy new year everyone! 2026 should be the year of the return of LRIT / HRIT in Europe, as well as quite a few good SatDump additions & v2.0.0... But let's not spoil yet :-)

Paris Nord, last train at 22:30. Of course that excludes suburban traffic, but still far from what most of Europe offers in comparison... And yet, we're still canceling the Paris/Vienna/Berlin NightJets.

MetOp-SG-A1 ( @eumetsat.int ) is now transmitting some data from its MWS and 3MI instruments! Received by @redplanet00.bsky.social. 3MI can be in color, however automating the process will take a bit of time. Support will be pushed to SatDump very soon.

And further on - LRD, a replacement for the L-Band HRPT older generations provided, was cut later on following further budget cuts a few years ago. Those are also the reason NOAA-20 is using the same experimental bus as Suomi NPP, which has several design issues...

Aang23 @aang23.satdump.org · 22/08/2025
This decision followed a wide change of policy at EUMETSAT where they began slowly becoming a lot more closed than they used to be. As of now, only the Russian METEORs operate LRPT, and people will have to rely on that now.

Aang23 @aang23.satdump.org · 22/08/2025
A little before, MetOp-A had also launched with plans to operate a compatible LRPT service, but after some technical issues it was disabled - and due to a "lack of users" (on a service that did not exist yet...) - they decided to scrap it on future ones.

Aang23 @aang23.satdump.org · 22/08/2025
It was initially planned to be on the new generation - as a new digital mode named "LRPT" instead of APT. However, that was back with the NPOESS program that had a much larger scope than the current JPSS program. NPOESS got drastic budget cuts, and LRPT went with it.

NOAA-15 was decommissioned today at 15:26 UTC, with its AVHRR/3 Instrument still in better state than the last 2 remaining on MetOp-B & C. It wouldn't be so disappointing if this wasn't done for the wrong reasons... Makes you wonder what happened to NOAA.

As of now there is only VCID 8/9 present, that is instrument and spacecraft telemetry, previously on S-Band which now looks quite empty.

Receiving @eumetsat.int's MetOp-SG A1's X-Band Direct Broadcast. It is 93.3M QPSK (Huge... Bigger DB yet). 1/2, RS 223 I=4 otherwise with both convolutional vectors swapped. All as expected... Now we just need to wait for EUMETSAT (or well, @esa.int for now) to turn stuff on! :-)

Unfortunately no L-Band though... But it should be rather nice on X-Band. Just a bit too wide for many.

Just got the news that the US Navy will *not* be stopping distribution of DMSP data in the end! As of now it's planned to keep SSMIS data distribution until September 2026.

Demodulating MTG-I1 raw data @ 26Ghz received in Panska Ves. It is 188M OQPSK 1/2 and RS I=5. Unfortunately, it is encrapted. It's very disappointing considering it's supposed to be public life-saving data... S-Band is not encrypted.

This means weather centers could very well use #SatDump to still get the data they need for hurricane analysis, right now, in real time, with simple equipment. WSF-M also coming. @weatherprof.bsky.social @michaelrlowry.bsky.social @rarohde.bsky.social @altnoaa.bsky.social bsky.app/profile/aang...

Additionally, a lot of DMSP Documentation seems to have been wiped off the web. The DMSP Data Specification declassified a few years back for example cannot be found anymore... Too bad I already had it! :-)

The data is decoded from the RTD Direct-Broadcast data stream - available unencrypted over the poles and CONUS. That won't allow restoring full availability worldwide like before... But better than nothing?

It was recently announced that DMSP SSMIS data wouldn't be available - so with @lego11.bsky.social we decided to add support in SatDump :-) Still lacking more samples (IQ) to do projections, but we can already process SSMIS data. Calibration is likely possible as well.
