Myceliophthora thermophila is a thermophilic ascomycete originally described in 1963. It produces a wide range of enzymes and can degrade cellulose. Human infections are rare and often seen in severely immunocompromised patients.

Phenotypic switching in Nakaseomyces glabratus (ex. Candida glabrata) with two phenotypes simultaneously are present in one clinical sample. They are microscopically different too; with aggregates seen in rough (opaque) variant.

The cactophilic yeasts, Sporopachydermia species, are intrinsically resistance to echinocandins. They are rarely identified in clinical laboratories but can cause human infections including bloodstream infections. Below images are S. lactativora.
