I'm just a copy editor, standing in front of the Fediverse, begging people to stop separating subject from predicate with a comma, e.g.: My friend from upstairs, visited me. Just. Stop. Please. #GUMmyStuff

[Target shooting] Going to shoot my S&W M&P 380 Shield EZ 2.0 this afternoon. Last week, my shots with my Sig Sauer P365XL (9mm) were disappointing. We think the old ammo (gift from family friend) was partly the cause, because changing to the new rounds led to improved results. I haven't […]

Huckleberry and Simon enjoy this sleep afternoon. #Caturday #CatsOfMastodon
An orange and white cat lies asleep on the edge of a dining table, his face, feet, and belly lit by late afternoon sun. On the chair below and to the right, a large black cat snoozes on a cushion. We can only see him from the shoulders back. The sun casts shadow stripes across his fur, through the chair back.

As professionals dedicated to appraising facts and reporting truth, journalists have a duty to protect the American voter from disinformation. www.mediaanddemocracyproject.org/20… 4/5
Journalists, defend democracy!

Protect Americans from disinformation!

• Avoid euphemisms that conceal and normalize extremism.
• Explain that disinformation by MAGA is a strategy.
• Don't platform liars or act as stenographers for strategic MAGA lies.
• Include a public figure's history of coup participation when quoting them.
• Inoculate Americans against a repeat of the Big Lie strategy.
• Build public trust by explaining the newsroom decisions you make about elections.
• Have a plan for handling deepfakes.

We're demanding that newsrooms improve their 2024 election coverage:

#GUMmyStuff #StyleMatters GODS BLESS CMOS for finally saying we should capitalize the first word following a colon when it begins a sentence (as opposed to a list). I despised the previous guidance, which left far too much to judgment and left many a MS looking as if the editor was flip-flopping.
