Very long shot. Do I know anyone in or near Phuket who can do me a favour? I left my wallet in a hotel earlier this year. They've just let me know they found it. Anyone over there willing to pick it up & post it back to me? Happy to pay, of course.

Abstract
Patents listed in the US Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Orange Book can delay generic competition, yet little is known about how often
patents are removed before expiration or why these delistings occur. We reviewed Orange Book records from 1998 through 2024 to identify
patents removed before their expiration dates, classified patents according to the subject matter of their claims and assessed potential reasons
for delisting using patent litigation and prosecution databases, FDA records, and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) actions. Among 9,980
patents listed during the study period, 535 (5%) were delisted before expiration. Only 71 (13%) claimed active ingredients; most delisted patents
instead covered methods of use (177, 38%), formulations (167, 36%), or delivery devices (75, 16%). Potential reasons for delisting included
potential invalidation in litigation (226, 42%), product discontinuation (207, 39%), and patent reexamination or reissue (60,11%). Orange Book
patent delistings predominantly involved secondary patents rather than active-ingredient patents. Greater clarity and oversight regarding
Orange Book listing requirements could reduce questionable listings and unnecessary barriers to generic competition.

TAKE YOUR BALLOTS TO A DROP BOX THIS NOVEMBER. Don't use a mailbox. Use a ballot drop box, because the US postal service is _already_ fucking with ballots. This is not a guess, theory, or extrapolation, this is an _observed fact_. Here's the Thurston […] [Original post on mastodon.murkworks.net]
The Problem with Mail Delivery

By law, we must certify the election by a specific deadline. For the primary, that date was August 18, 2026, two weeks after Election Day. Any ballot that arrives after this date cannot be counted, even if it was mailed on time.

We are seeing two main problems with the post office:

* Slow Mail: Many people mailed their ballots well before Election Day, but the ballots sat in post office sorting centers for weeks. In one case, a ballot was mailed in late July but didn't reach our office until after the August 18 deadline. It took 19 days to arrive, so it could not be counted.

* Ballots sent Between Counties: In Washington State, you can drop your ballot into any official drop box in the state. Other counties collect those ballots and mail them back to us using USPS Priority Mail. In the past, this worked well. But this year, mail sent on August 5 didn't reach us until August 24, six days after the deadline.

So far, our office has received 70 valid ballots that arrived after the certification deadline. This has never happened before, and it means those votes could not be counted. One ballot took 19 days to reach us.

What We Are Doing for November

No voter should lose their vote when they’ve followed every rule.

To fix this for the November election, we will no longer rely on the post office to send ballots between counties. Instead, our team will personally drive to neighboring counties to pick up and hand-deliver these ballots ourselves. Even though this costs extra money and time, it is necessary to make sure every vote counts.

An advert for Barksum Ipsum. The poster is divided into two separate halves. The left side is white, with black text reading "Boring. Corporate". It has a design for some sort of social media, with lorem ipsum text as the main text.

The right side of the poster, is yellow with a pattern, with text in white reading "Fun. Whimsical." This side also has the same social media design as the left, however it is now in black, and the lorem ipsum text is replaced with Barksum Ipsum, covering the text in "wruff"'s, "bark"'s and other dog-coded text.
