Shout out to @lewishousley.bsky.social and Phil Thompson for their ace proofreading!

It will be a few weeks until I have time to read it, but this is an instant order for me. @bitterkarella.bsky.social has a hilarious/tragic story in SUFFERING THE OTHER, and their previous book MOONFLOW is a barn-burner, 👍👍.

(I have been unemployed since April, and I finally picked up a small freelance job last week. It should be done by Thursday, then I will start shipping books in earnest.) (I am still furiously searching for a new day job.)

Suffering the Other is complete! I have possession of a partial print run, with the rest in process. I have many packages to ship - this will take a few weeks, please bear with me. Thanks to lead editor @mrsteeleyogirl.bsky.social and cover artist/designer @andrewsfuller.com for making this happen!

A dozen copies of Suffering the Other, lined up on a bookshelf with the spines visible.

Pleased to see there is an audiobook too. Just got a copy from @libro.fm.

This book is a fantastic, dark, and intense read. If you missed it in 2019, you can rectify that now. (Disclaimer: I have yet to read anything by S.P. that I did not love. She is that good.)

This is a really good one, some genuine skin crawling here. 👍👍

Weird Horror magazine from @undertow.bsky.social never misses. Michael Kelly has a knack for recognizing and spotlighting amazing writers, many of who are new to me. Read this story (free), and if you like it as much as I do, consider a WH subscription. So good.

Ah, I really liked this one. I think I need to re-up my WH subscription, will see to that today.

Sorry I missed you Matt. I ended up leaving early due to being tired, and hungry for both food and customers. Didn’t realize they were charging people $12.50 admission when I bought my table. 😡

Dim Shores @dimshores.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

It sold quite early! Now I’m down to 3 hardcovers at home (long story).

OK, this is not a drill. The final proof for SUFFERING THE OTHER looked great, and I have ordered books from the printer! I will have a small quantity on hand this Sunday at Sinister Book Fair in Sacramento, and will begin shipping orders and contributor copies next week.

I will be vending at Sinister Book Fair in Sacramento this Sunday. Kinda last minute, but a great opportunity to sell some copies of benefit anthology SUFFERING THE OTHER. Speaking of, I approved the final proof, and plan to start shipping orders next week!

I should point out that I always go to the really early shows.* Today there were four other people in the theater at 11:15, I love that. Sometimes I’m the only one, that is straight up magickal. *I have been unemployed since April, trying to maintain my sanity with bargain thrills.

Hugs and good tidings to you, friend. I also recently reread “Purity” and yeah, it has a vibe. Brings to mind the feelings of the films Possum and The Dark Backwards. So good.

Another Tuesday cheapo movie day at the local multiplex. Today I saw the new Resident Evil movie and quite enjoyed it. I haven’t seen the older films or even played the games, but this was a lot of fun. I laughed a lot (laudatory), fast paced with cool effects. 👍👍

It’s Wednesday, I know what that means!

000

Dim Shores @dimshores.bsky.social · 16/09/2026

Ugh. That seems to be more and more common. A lot of bars and clubs around me (Sacramento, CA, USA) photograph you or your ID at the door and run it against a bad-guy database. Or so I’ve read, I don’t get out much and would not patronize a place that does that.

010

Dim Shores @dimshores.bsky.social · 16/09/2026

Same, I’m about 75% there. This book deserves all its acclaim, and then some more acclaim. Stories are gold.

Tuesday is half-price movie day at the nearby multiplex so I caught an early show of Buddy, the new movie from Casper Kelly (Too Many Cooks). I liked it OK but can’t help feel it would be a better [adult swim] Infomercial or YouTube short. Still, worth a watch. (Look for scene-stealer Clint Howard.)

The movie poster for Buddy (2026). There is a grainy picture on an older TV screen showing the head and shoulders of an orange unicorn mascot-like costume with a red neck scarf. The costume is staring directly at the viewer. The text on the poster says:

FROM THE PRODUCERS OF
FRIENDSHIP and WEAPONS

AND THE CREATOR OF TOO MANY COOKS
BUDDY

AUGUST 28
ONLY IN THEATERS

Below the text are the logos for the productions companies.

I recently watched this - Buffet Infinity, a strange low-fi horror comedy. Format reminds me a lot of the analog horror channels on YouTube, like LOCAL58TV and The Mandela Catalog. Thumbs up, and h/t to @gemmafiles.bsky.social for bringing it to my attention.

I was 32, I remember. Erik is correct. The attacks were horrible, the US response was worse. Prejudice, hatred, xenophobia were (more) mainstreamed. I think you can draw a straight line from that response to the fascist state of the union right now.

Hey, folks! I'm extending the Cursed Morsels: A Food Systems Horror Anthology call, so you now have until September 28th to submit a story. I was worried I wouldn't have enough stories to fill the book, so it seemed like the right move. Details here: cursedmorsels.com/submission-c...

I just submitted the final files for SUFFERING THE OTHER, and I should have a proof in 7-10 days. If it looks good (and I expect it will), I’ll order the full print run. That would keep us on track for late September/early October shipping.
