The way this author was targeted is appalling, but what’s worse is the Goncourt Academy not having a AI screening strategy for all longlisted books. Once they decided to remove his novel from the longlist for alleged AI, they became bound to subject other longlisted novels to the same test.

This is fabulous, serious reporting about Pangram and the internet to come: “But if it’s to win over everyone with an interest in halting the flow of chatbotese into human thought and communication, it will have to answer an existential question: Can we really trust Pangram to tell the difference?”

I know everyone is getting AI-generated invites to fake book clubs, but is anyone reading AI-generated reviews of their books? I just found one for We the Platform on Goodreads and definitely more depressing to read fake analysis than a fake invite.
Two paragraphs of a Goodreads book review that Pangram reports is 100% AI generated. Pangram analysis shown on right side of the image.

You can/should read Emily Wilson's latest take on the Odyssey, but I'm logging on to convey my hairdresser's reaction. She was AGHAST that Nolan, with his million $ budget, gave Matt Damon ONLY 6 hair extensions. As a result, his hair did not blow around properly, & that ruined the film for her.

Emily Wilson is not the co-writer of Nolan's THE ODYSSEY. She didn't produce it or show up to set ready to be the high authority on all things adaptation. He read her translation, liked it, and turned to it for guidance in writing. She can say whatever she wants about the movie, calm down.
