Don't doubt that people love the movie, and can absolutely see why, but this all feels very Andrea Riseborough coded.

Sandra Hüller is great in ROSE (though I think she's even better in FATHERLAND). She's so good in this that she gives wonderful complexity to a film that can be too on the nose. The film is playing at Chicago International Film Festival. My review via @ebertvoices.bsky.social

While at Busan International Film Festival for Cine21, I wrote a review of Nanako Hirose’s competition film BETWEEN TWO LOVERS. It’s a pretty nice throuple dramedy that finds a few places to explore in its premise. Also, it’s pretty cool seeing my writing side-by-side in both English and Korean.

In this review I also gave a shoutout to WHO IS STILL ALIVE, which is Switzerland's Oscar submission. They're somewhat similar films in that they're based on testimonies (the latter relies on Palestinian voices) and use drawing to translate those stories. Also similar posters.
