I go down to the shore in the morning and depending on the hour the waves are rolling in or moving out, and I say, oh, I am miserable, what shall— what should I do? And the sea says in its lovely voice: Excuse me, I have work to do.” ― Mary Oliver

Phew! El Niño has been doing it’s thing in Tucson. We had close to 3 inches of rain last night alone, with multiple swift water rescues by the FD in flooded washes. The relief from the heat is very welcome. The mosquitoes, not so much.

I met an elderly nun tonight on my walk to the sea. She was sitting on a bench - said she sits here each night and prays. We had a fine talk about pelicans, the Pacific Ocean, California and Hwy 1 She ended our conversation by saying, “thank you - I see you also appreciate the great mystery.” 😢

The sudden shift from safe, breathable air to hazardous smoke spreading across the country is a reminder of how fragile the conditions that sustain life on our planet are. I wish moments like this helped us recognize our shared vulnerability and motivated us to work together to protect our world.

Pfendler, 32, initially set sail on May 21, aiming to become the youngest woman and the first U.S. woman to row this route solo. On July 3, she not only completed that mission, but she also became the fastest person of any gender to row across the mid-Pacific Ocean. bit.ly/4b6ssus
A person stands confidently with arms crossed, set against a blurred outdoor background. Text on the image reads: "Kelsey Pfendler is the fastest person to row solo from California to Hawaii. She beat the men's record by nine days, after wrapping up her 43-day journey last Friday." The 19th* logo is present.

The waiting during hospice really is the worst. This is the 3rd time around for our family. It is exhausting. Sometimes it’s a straightforward 10 days, others, like we are experiencing now, go from “in the next 12 hours” one day to a rally that is unexpected the next.
