getting tired of making this point but one more: 14 of Indiana's 22 starters last night, including their top 3 receivers, top rusher, & guys who got the punt block/INT/sack & 6/7 PBUs are Cignetti recruits (JMU included) or Indiana lifers. they beefed up the OL & got a QB in the portal. that's it!

there's nothing wrong with living in the portal, but it's also broadly not how Cignetti has been operating, UNLESS you include portaling in all the guys he previously coached at JMU, which is not really the same thing IMO.

The JMU guys left a successful, rising program to go with Cignetti to a world historically terrible program (as you wrote about) because they believed in Cignetti. He and they deserve tons of credit for that.

arguably Ohio State did/spent more in the portal before their title last year, they imported their QB too, as well as their center, one of their two co-starter RBs, and their best/most important defensive player. and the team still was mostly guys they paid to return over leaving for draft.

And one of the most overlooked crazy parts of this is how in the absolute h*ll did Chesney take over and get JMU to the playoff in the same year?! (And relatedly- what is a pissed off Napier about to unleash?!)

And it's not like they splashed cash for the portal either, they paid their own guys to stay, kept the coaches in house, and committed the money to make things already there better. Their biggest advantages were 1) continuity and 2) experience.

It is to us. Haha. He’s a great coach and absolutely elite at identifying talent, that’s how he got overlooked guys like Ponds, Fischer, etc. to even come to JMU in the first place.

That's 14 transfers

This makes me think the sole unproven aspect of the IU machine is whether they can GM on continuity. Probably, since Cig won't let them sleep on it and they have B10 cash.
