Kayin @kayin.moe · 29/04/2026These guys are so wack but for the non-wrestling people who follow me, to understand how stupid that X post is... This was happening in Texas in 1984 around the start of Hulkamania. Kerry von Erich vs Ric Flair in Texas Stadium. 1713737
Sol-less @solbgless.bsky.social · 29/04/2026Jesus Christ. Now the Hulkster is possessing people so that he can keep lying from beyond the mortal coil. 040
Gorgoe @gorgoe.bsky.social · 29/04/2026The only argument you could maybe make is that Hulk Hogan achieved a stardom far greater than most of the territory guys and propelled WWF into a hegemon. But people put way to much value in that and assume wrestling had nothing before him. 130
Patti Black @pattiblacxk.bsky.social · 29/04/2026What I remember as someone who was like 2 when this stuff started is like hulk was huge but wrestling was huge before and without him, he was basically just the start of really pushing the toys and merch (which also probably woulda happened without him -- it was the 80s after all) 000
craf 🌐 @crafciak31.bsky.social · 29/04/2026If we start to try imagining history of the wrestling without national Hulkamania, we would still have WWF trying and maybe even succeeding to go national, buying or destroying smaller promotions as they go, because that was the ambition of Vince. Hulk Hogan was the perfect catalyst for that. 110
Kayin @kayin.moe · 29/04/2026Jaguar Yokota vs Devil Masami drew thousands of people in Ota Ward Gymnasium the year Hulkamania was coined (1982). That probably isn't even the biggest AJW event of that year and AJW's ceiling would keep going up, regardless of WWF/E 2397
KINDAFREE | IRI @denofsin.bsky.social · 29/04/2026Every day truly is a coinflip between who aggravates me more when it comes to wrestling fans: the people who have been hooked on the WWF koolaid for decades, or the "This is better because its not 60 minutes of restholds or that dumb taking things too seriously" type 110

KurasuSoratobu @kurasusoratobu.bsky.social · 29/04/2026My father was a *HUGE* wrestling fan back in the '60s. Cowboy Bill, back when it was the WWWF. He's the one who *introduced* me to it. Wrestlemania/Hulkamania may have made big changes to the vibe, but it definitely wasn't the only thing that 'made' wrestling what it is on TV. 130
