Ariel Troster @arieltroster.bsky.social · 11/03/2026Did you know that the city doesn’t maintain the flowers in any of these traffic-calming planters and instead relies on volunteers? And if the people who initially agreed to take care of them give up, then the city just lets the plants go to seed or removes them? Austerity in action. 8324 32
Gof9GGof3 @gof9ggof3.bsky.social · 11/03/2026Maybe we need to utilize volunteers more. Have reasonable expectations, signed commitments for a set period of time, and “adopt a planter” or whatever else needs doing. People need to feel needed, just need some direction. Why not invite people to help keep Ottawa Beautiful? 110 1
Cameron Roberts @bikeademic.bsky.social · 11/03/2026Reminds me of the thing where the best plan anyone can come up with for the Commanda Bridge in the winter is to get someone called Groomer Dave to take care of it for free. Dave sounds great. But can you imagine if that was how we handled car infrastructure in the winter? 040 4
It's Jamie @sjamieit.bsky.social · 11/03/2026Hey, if the city puts in a planter/modal filter on Percy Street like the one a block over on Bay Street, I'll gladly look after it. The street is getting redone this year, now's the opportunity! 171 7
Ariel Troster @arieltroster.bsky.social · 11/03/2026The fact that we rely on volunteers for basic maintenance is INSANE. But if you are interested in adopting any of the planters in Somerset Ward, let me know. 3203 20
not Burt Reynolds @burtreynolds.bsky.social · 12/03/2026We shouldn't be doing this. We should be properly taxing the residents for the maintenance and upkeep this city needs. (And properly spending those taxes on the people, not on corporations) 000 0
