*taps mic* Hey Millenials! You know what we're not gonna do? We're not gonna fucking watch that new HBO Harry Potter show because R*owling is a reprehensible human/transphobe/acephobe and we're not giving her money. Okay? OKAY?! Yes, I mean *you*. Also read a different book. Hell, *write* one.

I think there are going to be actors who are very surprised when this show effectively ends their careers.

But ... what if I pirate them?

For me, it's not just the money. JKR has more money than any of us can spend in a lifetime. It's the media attention that this franchise gives her that is the source of her power. The POPULARITY of HP keeps the media focused on her Anything that keeps HP going, even if it gives no money, is bad

There is an HBO Harry Potter show? I don't pay attention to HP anymore. Guess I'll continue to do so.

*Columbo voice* And one more thing in regards to the Universal theme parks: Rowling and WB do not get a cut of ticket sales, but ANY ITEM YOU BUY THAT IS REMOTELY RELATED to HP gives them money. orlandoparkstop.com/news/theme-p...

How Universal Pays J.K. Rowling for the Harry Potter Theme Park Rights - Exploring the Contract

There's no doubt that the The Wizarding World of Harry Potter has been a huge success for Universal, but at what cost? And do they keep the rights forever?

You're not 12 anymore. You're almost 40 or possibly older. Please find something different to resonate with, I'm embarrassed for you.

If anyone wants a fix of teenage wizarding, @diane.dianeduane.com has written an absolutely lovely series of teenage wizard novels (and did so long before Rowling set pen to paper.) Go read her stuff.

I honestly got sick of them one Christmas when they were aired in a whole marathon over a week. The kids are grown. They took up pop culture space consistently for a decade. Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, Hagrid and both Dumbledors are gone now. We had them. We still have them. Watch Percy Jackson.

@naominovik.bsky.social’s Scholomance series is like if Hogwarts was actively, openly trying to kill its students, and it’s about (among other things) the school system we funnel kids through, what it’s actually for, and who it actually serves. So so so good.

If anyone would like a recommendation for a better series, try Diane Duane's Young Wizards series (starting with "So You Want To Be a Wizard"). For found-family portal fantasy, Seanan McGuire's Wayward Children series is great (first one is "Every Heart a Doorway").

I have a villainous character modeled after Rowling. She's a terrorist cult leader. And her male counterpart is modeled after both Andrew Tate and Jordan Peterson. That's the only good thing I got from her.

Clovermore @clovermore.bsky.social · 16/04/2025

Yeah. I lost so much interest when she started being so horrible. 😮‍💨 Like, I guess I have the fond memories of bonds over the series from the before times. But no thank you. And I am working on my own story. Still building the world though. Which *I* am enjoying immensely. 🩷

And not just Harry Potter. Anything from that person 😬 There was a crime show called Strike that looked really interesting to me until the last sentence "based on books from JKR" Big nope. I would rather rewatch other shows for the tenth time than watch something where she is involved 😒
