Really enjoying this so far! Basically, what if you went back 20 years later and re-investigated "the incident" from your high school. www.kuow.org/podcasts/focus

There's a throwaway line in my 10th grade journal about a teacher who invited students over to watch, uh, adult content, like, Ew, haha, gross. Read that and 😬

One of my longtime pals edited this and I got to hear some early drafts. It’s amazing!

This is infuriating and I'm disappointed by the actions of many of the adults. I'm also not surprised, just tired of shitty adults fucking kids over, abusing and bullying and being awful.

I worked at a college, where I learned from some of my more elder colleagues that a previous popular professor had been sleeping with students. He was allowed to MOVE INTO THE DORMS. Then at some point the axe finally came down, and the professor committed suicide (also in the dorms, I believe).

In mid school in late 80s, had a teacher called Happy Hands, was constantly touching students. His main move was leaning over our shoulder, cheek to cheek, hands massaging our shoulders, to supposedly look at our paper. Can’t believe that was allowed to continue. Yuck!

The re-investigation is one thing, but the look back into the way those who were reporting on it at the time is… also troubling? I want to think things have changed, but it makes you think for sure.

I hate that their were multiple "incidents" at my high school. And I'm sure there were some I just didn't hear about. (The physics teacher who missed a ton of classes because he was too busy in his brand new marriage to a student who'd graduated the year before was my "favourite")

There was too many, even understanding a few of them is too spooky

Really interesting to compare this to Serial. Unlike Serial, this podcast proceeds from the assumption that the past is knowable.

At my high school we had a teacher no one liked who had the nickname "Paedo Hadley". Guess who's currently in jail for grooming kids?

Sometimes I think every teacher was having a relationship with a student in my high school. I knew of several. I picked a friend up FROM a teacher’s apartment once.

Hilariously, "the incident" at my high school was assumed to be this, but as it turned out, there was zero sexual impropriety. Just a murder.

Oh whoa, this had me pulling out my yearbook, but I left Garfield before the teacher in question arrived.

This podcast has prompted a lot of reflection for me. I’m close in age to the host & it made me revisit some of the relationships I had w/teachers & those of my classmates. As a former teacher, I’ve also been thinking about how different things are, (or not for certain kinds of teachers).

Episode 2 is horrifying with how the girl was shamed for what the adult man did to her. I like to think we have a better understanding of power dynamics now.
