I think the point is that if someone buys an EV, they'll be unlikely to support anti-car measures (pro bike/walking). So, in principle, we can't do both things at once. The talk needs to be exclusively about bike/walk/PT and ICE cars should've been quietly banned long ago, so ppl have no choice.

City redesign doesn't need to be a very long term project. Pretty cheap & easy to put up mini jersey barriers to make micro mobility lanes in cities right now. If we keep gettin bigger SUVs & electrifying them, we will need to build brand new roads in a few years and not replace over a century.

Seville built out a 120km city wide protected cycle network in just 5 years, and did the 77km core of that in under 2 years.

Most car noise comes from the tires, as does the most plastic pollution. Electric cars are here to save the car companies, not our livable planet. A freeway full of electric single occupancy vehicles is still a freeway full of SOVs, the least efficient way to move people through a city.
