This ad on Youtube by @wisprflow.bsky.social. Can I suggest that this is no way to talk to anyone. Not your child, not your assistant, not your PhD student, no one. The fact that it's a dude commanding a woman just proves there's no hope for this company.

Exactly. I also doubt something can be that much worse than Teams. Tried using Teams on Linux? No official support, so only from the browser and even then, absolute shit is a compliment.

This is not just the US, you can safely generalize. In Uppsala, Sweden, I saw just last week an impatient driver overtake a stopped bus at speed, going on the wrong side of a pedestrian crossing traffic island.

Lack of political will is real. But we shouldn't be paving so much green space. Cars aren't justified (cost + harms). Plus I see how the conflict point is "solved" (stop for cyclists?!). This really is a bad example. No free access for cars in cities. Everything else is hard to justify.

For those saying how the bike commute lifts their mood... This is the actual reality after a few years (or earlier). Witnessing injustice/violence at such rate, explicitness, and normalization is traumatizing in the long run. It adds to sexism, racism, environmental abuse, etc etc.

Exactly. The screams should be: don't buy a car. And if someone still does, only EVs should be available. Part of transitioning away from cars is reallocating their space (cheap and immediate). Ppl who bought shiny new EVs are unlikely to support that. EVs directly compete with the overall goal.

Not quite. It is pro car to ask cyclists to respect stop signs and red lights. It is pro car to pretend that cars and bikes have the same obligations. It is pro car to clump respect for car "rules" with respect for pedestrians. It is pro car to crowd out the discourse with this shit. Unhelpful.

The inadequate cost of EVs needs to be addressed no later than when ICEs begin to irreversibly die out. The burden on society in terms of harms is insane. Plus infrastructure, institutions, etc. Freeloading and causing harm. At least let's not subsidize it.

Wrong. You should have to sit various tests and see all possible doctors, then have to put down a gigantic deposit, then have a cooling off period of a few months, then sit more tests, then cycle 30km out of town to the dealership to talk to a person to get a car. Then sit driving tests each year.

I second the sentiment here! It's not like rules are obeyed in Sweden or elsewhere (e.g. ~50% of drivers speed, in Sweden), but not even mandating an overtaking rule sends a terrible message. Classic Transportstyrelsen.

I am once again pointing out that even if Waymo cars are individually "safer than a human driver," what they will do to the transportation landscape will prolong the unsafety of our streets, leading to more harm in the long run than if we went all-in on traffic calming with no robotaxis at all.

This is what I've been writing since forever. Separate infrastructure only works "most of the time". In Sweden, ppl drive on separate bike paths to drop off groceries at the door, pick up someone, or park not blocking the road. It's not rare (I see it every day). There's no dealing with cars.
