Need some GM opinions for this approach to Loot Tables, I'm thinkin' of doing a few pre-made treasure chests a GM can just chuck into their game, a few bits of gear and a magic item. There'll be a list of lone magic items after a couple pages of these.

Maybe specify the Backpack can only hold one Kin at a time, and they still need to breathe? It would necessitate them keeping their face exposed, or using a separate magic item to breathe while fully inside the Backpack; a Bottomless Breathtube that can also be used for other things, perhaps.

The only "issue" I see with prebuilt chests is that if you run multiple campaigns, eventually you get "Oh first proper chest let's see what we get oh who would have guessed a tongue!"

I love roll generated loot! I made a table of 100 random items for it and tweak as appropriate, with another 100 random potion effects. Having a list of pre generated is also SO useful though, especially when you have to whip something up from nothing! Maybe with d4 random options for longevity?

I like it, populating sets of treasure like this is always a pain so this lays out a good template to follow. I could see my players using the Bottomless Backpack to collect goblins, throw in some sapience-inducing mushrooms, shake, and release in town to crash the economy.

The idea of theme reward lists or scale/level lists is a pretty useful idea to help people measure their expectations. Put this alongside your cross section of sample quests and you could have say 3~5 sets with a couple custom chests in between. This would make a campaign template though…

It definitely is solid. My only suggestion would be to have this as close to other lists of items. Such as Weapons, Armours, Magic items, General Store, Grimoires, Instruments, even furniture items. (people like simple stuff too) My only issue with V1 was these lists were a bit of pages apart.

What I do is make four or more lists for rarities of around 20ish items and I would pull 4 common 3 uncommon 2 rare and 1 story/legendary item. Then on a percentile die the group has to roll from 1-50 for the commons 51-78 for an uncommon 79-95 for the rares, and the last five for the last item.

Only thing I can think of maybe make the 1(nothing) a roll on a big trinket table? Like stuff that has no game effect. Players love collecting trinkets.

That chalice. I wonder what would happen if you filled it with exotic/unusual fluids. If you filled it with cerebrospinal fluid or quicksilver, would it play some other music, or would it shrug it's metaphoric shoulders and just play nothing?

Roll tables are really nice. Ive been getting pretty into Pirate Borg and its basically all roll tables. Nice change of pace from what im used to. Having pre-gen options is fun, even if everyone doesn't use them its a nice tool for a newer GM to have. Personally I like the idea.

I think both pre-made ones and tables for creating new random ones are both helpful. I often run modules made by other folks, but I also modify them to fit the group I'm running for, and I also build my own. It all depends on my mood, energy levels, time, etc.

The pre-made chests are a great idea! It establishes the ‘normal’ amount of loot in a chest, rather than making the GM guess the balanced amount of treasure to give players.

As someone who’s been running games for years and making my own system as well I think these premade chests are a great idea! This is the sort of thing a lot of new game masters will use religiously. And I’m already thinking of cool ways to present them in game.

More variety, more chaos more fun. So prepacking specific magic items is kind of a break with the vibes. Keeping a rollable table just for magic items to slot into the tiers of loot chests seems like the best combination. Either way, everything you're doing is shaping up to be fucking awesome.

premade generic treasure piles is handy for the GM & gives an idea of what you, the author, were thinking but themed ones should be geared towards who the previous owner was so the PCs don't feel like "who's next to get the cool thing" a big chart like your NPC one would be ideal
