@zzt For once, I am extremely happy to say _I_ don't write the headlines. And I think, sadly, they took down the official bribe pricelist. :-( www.theregister.com/profile/contact

I've seen criticism that people are being too hard because it's a mistake a person would have made. As it turns out when you act like a smug prick using right wing dog whistles all while turning the kernel into a pay to play system nobody wants to give you any grace. Shocking I know.

We are more in agreement than you realize:

I guess now is a good as time as any to “come out”: I'm using #Anthropic's #Claude on a regular basis to help me figure out what types of policies we should set for reasonable & ethical use of #LLMGenAI in #FOSS, & also to actually improve FOSS codebases.

I believe it is reasonable to use proprietary technologies as long as our eyes remain on the prize of defeating those technologies.

@cwebber, I suspect, doesn't agree.

@zzt Copyright means it doesn't have to be reasonable invoices for labor. All of us with code in the kernel should be slapping them with infringement suits for their violating the terms of the GPL under which they're using our code.

and again if you need stability and netbsd is thiiis close to being perfect on your hardware, please don’t let me stop you from tinkering with it and contributing and making it work do let me stop you from pretending it’s a solution to anything but your problems on your hardware, though

you think I’m a psyop? I fucking love BSD and I’d love to close my eyes and go back to tinkering with my system, on old hardware I purchased specifically to work with a specific kernel, doing nothing of value for anyone but myself but doing that wouldn’t fix anything, would it?

the big men of FOSS told you that you were no good at organizing, at the messy legal bits, at licensing, at the social bits. they demanded fealty and money because they were the organizers. how could you hope to come up with a (laughably weak) document like the GPL? with 1000 variants of the BSD […]

you know, I was hoping I already made this clear netbsd taking money from a relatively unknown fascist group doesn’t damn them. they likely didn’t know who FUTO was. most people don’t. if it runs ok on your hardware (and that’s a big “if”), netbsd is likely a more stable choice than any Linux […]

the FOSS we imagined was real. otherwise we wouldn’t have all imagined it. but the people who promised it to us have all failed to protect it. all of the systems and all of the protections we were told about were worthless. all of them are currently trying to accomplish the switch portion of a […]

netbsd isn’t necessarily compromised, but they absolutely aren’t your friends. you don’t know them. if we want the FOSS we all imagined, where the marginalized come together to share and contribute to a software ecosystem that can benefit humanity for many generations, it’ll involve rather more […]
