For Pharaonic Egypt of the New Kingdom (Late Bronze Age) the Bayuda desert was a natural barrier preventing direct hegemony in this part of Sudan, possibly forcing the Egyptians to outsource control to local chieftains. Now, archaeology analyses the Bayuda, revealing its unique character.
