My total time working in concrete added up to about 10 months. It left me with carpal tunnel syndrome, a back injury, and a bunch of the skin ripped off my left arm from a supervisor's easily avoidable error. I loved it, learned a ton from it, but I'd be on my way to an early grave if I'd stayed in.

The real reason The Atlantic is shilling trade jobs is to support funding cuts to Public Universities to close off access to a ladder to the middle class for 1st gen and underrepresented minorities who they think should still be "the help." Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

If you're a Dem who thinks you'll gain something by going anti-trans, look at Gallup's "most important problem" and Fox News' "most important issue" polling and see where trans issues rank. Whoever told you going anti-trans is a savvy or necessary move spends too much time on X and should be fired.
Gallup polling. "LGBTQ rights" moves between 0 and 1%.Fox news polling. Wokeness/transgender issues at 0%.

I don't think people really understand the psychic impact of knowing that multiple times a day every day your friends, family, coworkers, neighbors, and everyone who could ever have any power over you is being flooded with agitprop designed to make them hate you

I would love to hear Mike Johnson’s definition of a liberal Marxist Democrat. We’ve got Marxism-Leninism (ML) Communists, we’ve got Marxism-Leninism-Maoism (MLM), and now apparently L for liberal LMDs? We have the potential for completely new political compass memes

that's terrible!! i wonder if there are any other severe disconnects between how people treat you personally and the harm that can unfold through policy that you should examine
One week in, the administration I served reinstated its ban on trans people in the military. Decorated officers such as my friend Colonel Bree Fram were thrown out for the crime of being honest. In the White House, people called me “indispensable.” I still was not welcome in their bathrooms.

Exemplifies how deeply pathetic all that "work together for the good of the nation" nonsense is when in practice it just means things like "actively help a bizarre theocrat wield power, bonding over shared racism towards Chinese students, the true threat to the homeland."

tl;dr: Alabama's ability to administer a new congressional map disenfranchising Black voters has been complicated by the fact that Alabama is celebrating Jefferson Davis's birthday today.
Jeff Elrod, the Director of Elections for Alabama’s Secretary of State, testified
at the preliminary injunction hearing on May 22, 2026, that voter reassignments for
the 2023 Plan in Alabama’s voter registration database could not begin until May 27
and must be completed by tomorrow, June 2. App.123, 136–37, 139, 167, 179. In fact,
June 2 itself appears to be too late: Mr. Elrod testified, “The vendor has
communicated to us that once the absentee process begins and absentee ballot is
issued [sic], that is when the records are locked. The first day for absentee voting for
the June 16th runoff is June the 2nd.” App.139. If absentee ballots are issued the
morning of June 2, then all changes must be completed by today, June 1. And state
and county administrative offices are closed today, June 1, to celebrate the birthday
of Jefferson Davis.1 This leaves a few hours on an Alabama holiday to complete voter
reassignment for the 2023 Plan

The Supreme Court Is Very Concerned About “Voter Confusion,” Except When It Helps Republicans
A Court that claims to be skeptical of “judicial tinkering” with elections has no problem allowing Republicans to stack the deck—even in states where voting is already underway.

Many of the rural communities where I grew up are majority Black. This is the case throughout plenty of the South. Ain't it just amazing that's somehow never where the focus is when pundits, consultants and hacks wax rhapsodic about "rural voters" and "rural areas."
