Something I’ve been thinking masses about over the past few days (without any interesting thoughts to show for it) is the degree to which one conceives of a potentially abstracted Thing as having a notionally concrete ideal.

Devised the perfect hot chocolate: Lots of cocoa powder, caster sugar, potato starch, oat milk slowly whisked in from a dribble to a pour when well incorporated, brought to a simmer over medium heat while whisking the bottom, incorporate a teaspoon of coconut oil.

Anti-apartheid supermarket price tags for products covered by the #BDS boycott. These are Sainsbury's specific but I'm making them for other supermarkets/products and the A4 print files will all be available to download from my website: spellingmistakescostlives.com/bdssupermarket

That's the biggest question mark I have with federation here; like, where's the draw to form a community if doing so has no real material impact on how you use the network? If the answer's "moderation," how exactly does that not devolve into the sort of infighting the Fediverse is famous for?

I frequently see arguments on Bluesky enter a state of confusion and escalated bad faith animosity when people accuse their interlocutors of having cowardly deleted their posts, and they’ll insist they haven’t. This seems to be undisprovable platform logic:

The German vice-chancellor has just been awarded the national speech of the year prize on the merits of rhetoric, for his statement on “Israel and antisemitism”. Stylistically, it’s very neat. And the content is a neat illustration of the particular German state-cultural Zionist exceptionalism.

It’s difficult to elicit a deeper analysis with these types because right wing sentiment adulates in grievance and leftist online discourse adulates in dunks, but I can’t help feel a more self-respecting “I didn’t leave the left, it left me” type would reflect more on the value of grievance per se.
