Image of the book cover for Blaize M. Kaye's 'Ethics after the End of the World', ZamaShort #16.
Text: “A “weighty significance” that’ll hit you like a brick. Prescient, touching, and thought-provoking, Kaye’s going to take you to the precipice of your lived life and afterlife and ask you: what’s the meaning, for you? And offers a choice. So how close are you willing to get to the Truth?”
— Stephen Embleton, 2024 Nommo Award Winner for Best Speculative Fiction Novella, Undulation.

“Blaize Kaye’s vision of the future is tender, prescient and profound. ‘Ethics after the End of the World’ offers us science fiction at its most intimate, allowing us to go beyond picturing the world he has created, to feeling it. Blaize’s work, as seen so clearly in this story, concerns itself with loneliness and loss in this world and others, but is always grounded in human connection.”
— Amy Heydenrych, author of Bad Luck Penny.

I just read this! It's a fantastic story that is, in part, about knowing there's a creator of the world and choosing to want nothing to do with them, and what it means to love someone who wants different. Very much recommend!

And text:
“‘Descendants of Balance’ is a perfect serving of Rafeeat Aliyu's unique storytelling alchemy. The heft of the Forest as a living thriving organism brought a folktale thrill to this tale about the equilibrium expected of those who live between worlds. It centres textured characters while never forgetting the cinema and magic of their fantastic worlds, lineages, and origins. This story draws on precolonial history and indigenous myth to reveal a world wholly new, yet familiar as childhood. We found ourselves caught up in the unfolding of Oronsen's survival, in Lakange's strength and love, in the mystery of the iwin.”
— Dare Segun Falowo, author of Caged Ocean Dub.

John Kessel on 'Descendants on Balance' by Rafeeat Aliyu, ZamaShort 14.
Text reads: “In 'Descendants of Balance' Rafeeat Aliyu tells us of a powerful spirit of the forest, taken human form out of love for a warrior king, the political and interpersonal conflicts that follow, and the betrayal that breaks things apart. It glows with the elemental force of myth and with the jealousies we find ourselves living whether or not we are gods, even when we don't know those stories that created us.”
— John Kessel, author of The Presidential Papers.
