Think Stephen King meets "Parks and Rec". It quickly became my favorite series of the year and I can't wait for more!

I love going on the first day of early voting! Voting early also helps the campaigns target more effectively and focus on reaching those less likely to get to the polls!

To me, if you plan to vote, there's no reason to vote on "official" election day if your state has early voting. Get it out of the way and keep it moving.

I had similar conversations here in Massachusetts about my alma mater being a good school "for Texas". You mean the public one that's globally known for its research, business, and engineering? The one that could get me a high potential individual visa to the UK based on just graduating from there?

That comparison made me laugh! They're both world-class cities *now* but Chicago's been one for far longer! When I lived in Illinois, I lived in the suburbs an hour away by train. I enjoyed every trip into the city, whether it was to see family, friends, or just have a good time & gawk at buildings

Yes! About a year and a half ago, we had to move abruptly and quickly for Maverick's job, so I didn't get a chance to say goodbye or really announce it. 😔 Are there any northeastern-homesickness goodies that you can't get in Washington that you'd like me to send your way? 😊

I'm from Texas. Most of the "most like you" areas on my dialect map are Texas. Yet, it says I talk like someone from Oklahoma, and my most similar cities are in New Mexico & California! The Texhomex/Southwest dialect continuum is real! Funnily, my current home (Massachusetts) is least similar.
My dialect quiz results. On a map of the United States, the most similar areas are Texas, New Mexico, California, and a bit of Oklahoma. The least similar places are the Dakotas, New England, Minnesota, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Everywhere else is in between.

Cities most & least like you
Interpolated from the nearest survey responses.

Most similar:
1. Albuquerque, NM (55%)
2. San Francisco, CA (55%)
3. Los Angeles, CA (55%)

Least similar:
1. Boston, MA (51%)
2. Portland, ME (51%)
3. New Orleans, LA (52%)

What gave you away
Answers that point most strongly to Oklahoma

What do you call a drive-through liquor store? Beer barn.

What do you call the little gray creature (that looks like an insect but is actually a crustacean) that rolls up into a ball when you touch it?
Roly poly.

What word(s) do you use to address a group of two or more people?
y'all

pecan. [pıkan] ("pick Ahn").

Yeah! I only know the term "Mischief Night" from an episode of Rocket Power 25-ish years ago. What's funny is that the show was set in California... which doesn't do Mischief Night. It's highly regionalized to the Mid-Atlantic states. Michigan has "Devil's Night" instead. Nowhere else does it.

Seen on Cape Cod today: A tourist from Québec, with a license plate that says ORLEANS, heading east on Route 6 toward Orleans. Yes, they did take exit 89 (old exit 12) for Orleans.
A white Lexus RX 350 traveling down Route 6 on Cape Cod in Massachusetts. Its license plate says ORLEANS. The distance sign in miles, reads "Brewster 6, Orleans 8, Provincetown 35". A couple meters further is the milepost for Mile 82.8. The sky is cloudy. Trees line the road. There are physical barriers in the road's median along the double yellow lines.A white Lexus RX 350 traveling down Route 6 on Cape Cod in Massachusetts. Its license plate says ORLEANS.

Body weight for most people can vary up to three kilos *daily*. It can fluctuate depending on how much water you've drunk, how much food you ate for your most recent meal, how long it's been since you used the bathroom, stress & more! With that in mind, two pounds is basically a rounding error! 😊

Hi, AP! I tried to submit a correction on y'all's website, but the form said I was including inappropriate words when I wasn't. The metric conversion "13 million hectares" should be "1.3 million hectares" or 13,000 km². Typographically minor but important and consequential for accuracy! 😊

Is the Legislature of Ontario full-time? Stateside, it's not uncommon for smaller, more rural state leges to be part-time. I can't imagine Ontario would be part-time. The Texas Legislature meets only for 140 days every two years, which is *absurd* for a mostly urban state of thirty million people.

During the workweek, I have so many ideas for but no time to make a bunch of sweet treats! Today's kitchen marathon led to: -a chocolate mud cake -a sour cream pound cake -Liège waffles -piloncillo and cinnamon salted caramel pecan turtles (clusters) -dark-roast-peanut butter cups -caramel popcorn!

Yes! It's superb! I have a lot of bananas and banana bread right now, and that's my favorite way to eat it! Sometimes, if I'm feeling particularly decadent, I toast it (or a slice of pound cake) in a pan with butter (as you would for a grilled cheese), too!

Y'all, last grocery pickup, we ordered one bunch of bananas. They gave us one banana. This time, we ordered "5"; they gave us five bunches. I've made banana bread, bananas foster, fried bananas, banana fritters, smoothies, "nice cream". We still have two kilos left, now frozen. Any other ideas?

Envious! Glad they taste as good as they look! Pecans are my favorite! I put chips in to keep the cookie structurally sound, but chopped bars will always have my heart because I love trying new bars and the resulting melty puddles in the cookie! 10/10, would share with you! 😛

The US equivalent of Victoria Day is Memorial Day, observed a week later, which honors people in the military who died while serving, like Remembrance Day. Cinco de Mayo in the US is basically a second St. Patrick's Day with Mexican culture subbing in for Irish. It's not a federal or state holiday.
