Calgary has an amazing off-street pathway system with over 1,000km. So when someone proposes to stop building on-street pathways for bicycling and leave that space for cars, it seems doable. Maybe even reasonable… until you take a closer look. #Calgary #yycBike #yyc

I have 2 questions: Where's the list of projects (transparency please!) and how did the schools get picked? @youthenroute.bsky.social first schools was EP Scarlett in Canyon Meadows. They just made temp installation permanent. Looks nicer, but the yellow TC curbs worked just fine. #yycbike

Improving the street scape in front of 50 Calgary schools sounds great until you realize there are 450 schools and kids need things to be safe the whole walk/bike home and not just in front of their school.🤷‍♂️ Let’s keep up the momentum and make all residential areas safer.👍 #Calgary

One tidbit in the item from the #CBE almost made me scream. Is that it's the principals responsibility to supervise drop off and pick up areas. Like principals have any expertise (or time for that matter) to be traffic engineers, but it all falls to them to advocate for improvements.

Anytime you increase the cost of busing, you're forcing families to resort to driving. For a family, a car is sunk costs, but a bus pass, of $85 per teen per MONTH, is extra. So parents drive, or let them walk or bike & hope like hell they aren't hurt by all those cars.
