I’ve seen “run the dishwasher twice” tossed around as advice that‘s supposed to generalize out (ie “half-assing is ok as long as the thing gets done”) my problem is that sometimes things MUST be whole-assed or they actually won’t get done, and half-assing makes the situation worse

My problem with the Run The Dishwasher Twice principle is that sometimes the food is still there because the dishwasher /can’t/ get it, and so now you DO have to wash it by hand AND there’s no room in your sink because more dishes have piled up since you relied on a shitty dishwasher TWO TIMES

My take on the Sunscreen Denialism thing is basically that “This thing is personally unpleasant for me, thus I will retrofit ‘legitimate’ reasons why it’s ok for me to ignore it” is a very common thought process Just rationalizing away cognitive dissonance based on aesthetic/sensory reasons
