Good ideas here, especially on external shading. One thing we’ve done is put one of those reflective shade cloths usually used for cars over the flat roof kitchen roof lantern. Let’s light in so can be left up all summer.

NEW! Big Wood is a rural spot, far away from a main road. It is a wood of oak, ash, hazel and field maple. It's night and the air is still. Another storm is brewing but for now the skies are quiet. 299 Owls of Big Wood (*sleep safe* with owls) > radiolento.podbean.com/e/299-owls-of-big-wood
Illustration of the wood, on a sign outside the wood. Makes it look lush and well managed. The sign is slightly weathered from being outside.

I have seen a good number of posts from the UK that decry Count Binface as a mockery of democracy. The thing is, I think, that satire/humor can ferociously undercut illiberal movements’ legitimacy. The spectacle of it then becomes rather important itself. The unserious is ironically quite serious.

Whatever did the Victorians do for us? They came up with some amazing ideas which we have abandoned. I need to get some awnings on the outside of my house, but this is much neater solution for upstairs. It probably relies on sash or inward opening windows though.

This was me in the early 1970's. There was a forge in the village where Grandma lived and I loved to watch. Sometimes I would be allowed to sit on the horse (probably a pony, but it looked huge to me)
