It's allowed, but they can't get state "Public Library Fund" monies and internet access through OPLIN. Or LSTA grants, or E-Rate discounts, or... OK. I guess you're right.

Oh, I'm sure I would be less than useless as a crew member. Most knitters I know would be useless. Except with the knots. We'd excel at the knots.

The Zodiac holds a knitting cruise every year. I'd love to do it, but I can't make the timing work out for me. Maybe next year.

But different route on the way home contributed 5 Acton signs, 0 Ramaswamy. A couple Mercier signs, but no accompanying sign for Vivek.

Sigh. "Husted."

A "We the People" sign without other signs is an Acton vote. (I think those are from UA Progressive Action.) A "Yes on 7" is UA school levy, so I'd say that's a split vote household. 😆 A Hustead sign... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Some handicapping assumptions: a Russo or Brown sign without an Acton sign is a likely Acton vote. A Don Roberts sign without a Ramaswamy sign is not a sure vote for Ramaswamy.

I want to believe. I also know that, as an Ohioan, I cannot risk hope and optimism, because I cannot take those being utterly obliterated again.

That is so clever. It strikes me that it might also make a fun library program.

that’s right the internet started going irreversibly downhill the day Reader died
Technology you’re most nostalgic for: Google Reader
Especially when I was a writer and business journalist, but even afterwards, I loved Google Reader as a way to organize news articles and feel like I got through them. It was just a great interface. I use Feedly now, which is pretty good to read news, but doesn't quite hit like Google Reader used to hit.

It ends with Nick and Jordan graveside. Nick says something like, "I think I'll go back to Indiana. I think I'll write." Jordan replies, "Can I come? Can I help?" Fade out. Such an improvement over "So we beat on, boats against the current . . ." (whatever that's supposed to mean).

We very specifically do not have to hand it to Mike DeWine. I'm very, very much looking forward to the uptick in urine-based tourism to the western Ohio cemetery he winds up in.

on the one hand, fuck them on the other hand the supreme court explicitly signing off on Ballroom is actually a pretty good weapon to use when it's time to argue for court expansion, and does far less damage than most of their rulings

When I was learning Spanish, I was fascinated by "ojalá que" and wished I could use it more casually. If saying "inshallah" panics the reactionaries, all the better.

I don't particularly need a subscription to, say, New York magazine (on top of, I should note, the many subscriptions I maintain). But I'd occassionally like to read a particular article or opinion piece, and I'd happily chip in a buck for the privilege.

Still, you can walk into a Chipotle and pay for a burrito. You don't have to buy an all-access pass to Chipotle. Microtransactions would be welcome.

Anyone who thinks that this is somehow evidence of sentience really, really needs to be made to watch Desk Set (1957) and then write a thesis about how a nearly 70 yr old movie was able to predict them so well. As Janis Joplin said, "It's all the same fuckin' day, man."
