This is a major miscalculation, because making deals with dictators is the road to hell. Innocent people are being killed with money from gas and fuel sales. And, very likely, the promised fuel will never arrive.

Such an agreement runs directly counter to the Western world's longstanding efforts to restrict the flow of energy revenues to Putin. Until now, the United States has persuaded its allies to abandon Russian fuel, and we have done the same. The longstanding policy of depriving Russia of revenue is the right one and must continue.

Estonia and the European Council should discuss next week whether we can quickly increase our support for Ukraine so that Ukrainian forces can blow Russian oil refineries to pieces.
