As a big Superman fan I was apprehensive when the Absolute line was announced. I’m so happy to have been wrong with my fears. I haven’t read much of the Batman, but Superman, Wonder Woman have been so good, and true to the spirits of the characters. Green Lantern and Flash have been great too.

This @espn.com “commercial break” screen on espn+ is so annoying. The volume is a lot louder than the game itself and the sound is random studio noises. Give us a view of the stadium if you can’t sell ads for the game.

The first episode of My Adventures With Superman season 3 was great. Love this series.

Now to get the audio from my AppleTV’s HDMI output so I get 5.1 working. The “new” receiver has digital audio in via a coax connector. I ordered this HDMI audio extractor that I think is going to be the solution I need. If it works I’ll be happy we didn’t go ahead and buy a soundbar. amzn.to/4gjmHwL

This weekend was my town’s big yard sale weekend. In my neighborhood I found a never-opened low-end 5.1 system from around 2003 for $40. It was pre-HDMI but I figured it was worth it, even if it’s just for the speakers. I got it set up with the shairport-sync PC and it works great…as a 2.1 system.

Until we had a better solution I found the Shairport-Sync (github.com/mikebrady/sh...) open source project that lets you airplay audio to a computer. I used an old mini-PC that I wasn’t using for anything else and used some old PC speakers. This worked great.

Our new house came with a projector in the basement and the room was wired for a 7.1 speaker setup, but the previous owner took the speakers and receivers. It’s been a while since we had any multi-channel audio setup so we were waiting because there were other things that had priority in the budget.

ROM is in the #EnergonUniverse in the M.A.S.K. blind bags, and doesn't have a retail release announced. This came out after Alt Mode 498 was recorded, so @yakk0.org & @cybertronianbeast.bsky.social recorded this to go over the news. More next week in Alt Mode! youtu.be/LEolskM8hEk

I like seeing all the fake “prop” technology in IKEA stores and today I saw this. I immediately recognized the unit as a TiVo series 2 unit, and looked closer and saw that it was indeed a real unit with the TiVoman peeled off. Weird seeing that instead of a cardboard box as a generic DVR.

Friday is the big ove, but my goal is to get my home office in a workable state by tonight so I can work from the new house starting tomorrow. I’m 80% there but need to finish my desk setup and some networking problems.

Fuck Nate Cavanaugh and Justin Fox and anyone else involved in the cruel way they canceled valid grants and harmed many researchers and their families (including mine). What happened to all the money that was supposed to go to those grants?

And it’s making tech so expensive. This was going to be the year I built a PC with my son to teach him how a computer works. Not going to happen with these prices. We will tear apart my 12 year old dell Desktop machine and he can learn from that I guess.

I don’t use these, probably out of spite. I feel like we are being forced to use AI in everything, particularly at my work where they’re making me take some training for AI. I don’t like it. I don’t trust that if I was using it for some big task the answers won’t include made up crap.

Jeremy Dennis @yakk0.org · 20/02/2026

I just about lost it in the car tonight when I opened the app for my grocery store to double check that it would still be open when it told me to check out its new AI assistant. I’m sure somebody worked really hard to add this feature nobody outside of some executive wanted, but I’m sick of it.

Yeah, last summer. My wife got a job here. It’s really nice, reminds me of Madison in a lot of ways.

I will also say that it is nice that I was able to buy a replacement DC-in jack from Dell for this 6 year old laptop. $10 and it works again. I’ll probably need to buy a new battery too, that’s going to be another $100.

I’ve been playing with different Linux distros on my old laptop. I’ve been enjoying Bazzite for the game support, but I want to try and see if I can use this for more day to day stuff. Installing ZorinOS now, then I might try more traditional distros like Mint.

Jeremy Dennis @yakk0.org · 14/02/2026

Thanks. I’m sure I’ll post more about it once we get in it, but it’s got a lot of things on my “want” list like Ethernet pulled to multiple rooms. My wife is going to hate me with the tech stuff. LOL

Don’t want to get too far ahead of myself, but I have to post about it somewhere. We are now under contract on a house and hope to close mid-March. Lots of stuff to do, but we are so excited and happy it’s happened so fast.

Welp, finally got off my butt this week and began the process to find a house here in NY. The inventory isn’t very high where we want to live, but we have a few months before our apartment lease is up. Crossing fingers that we find something and the process isn’t too frustrating.

Found out that my 97 year old grandmother passed away in her sleep earlier tonight. We were expecting it, but didn’t know how soon it would be. I’m glad 2025 will soon be over. Hope 2026 is going to be better for everyone than 2025 was.

I haven’t had this much fun watching a Memphis Tigers football team in years. Our last few teams have been great, but this team is just so good and does not let up on the gas. We need to run up scores like this and make it clear that we are the best team in the American. #gotigersgo

When I see someone BS about something I know well, how much other stuff are they lying about? Probably a lot. I agree with @scottniswander.bsky.social, Ben probably didn’t watch the movie, or at least didn’t understand anything that wasn’t spelled out explicitly in the movie.

The other day my wife looked at the pond in the park nearby and exclaimed “why are the Canadian geese still here?!?” Without missing a beat I responded “tariffs.” It took a few seconds for her to recover from the amazing response. Or she was trying to recover from a groan. Either way it’s a win.

I was really thinking absolute Superman to be another failed take on making a gritty, dark Superman story and it’s been the opposite. So different, yet still shows the heart and truth of the characters in it!

Look at this and the red states impacted. It’s going to be interesting watching the fallout of this. Personally, as someone that works for a university that is heavily hit by this, and married to a researcher who’s livelihood is dependent on grant funding I’m still trying to not panic over it.

Partially checked off a bucket list item today when we took a short detour and visited Metropolis, IL. I wish we had more time to spend as it was just a “jump out of the car, take some photos, and get back on the road” stop. As a lifelong Superman fan, this was so cool. I will be back one day.
