I've seen a lot of this "9 Games That Shaped Me" stuff going around so I thought I'd join. The way I interpreted that idea is that these are the 9 games that impacted my taste in games the most. Very hard to choose only 9 though, misses a lot of important games.

A list of 9 games: Final Fantasy VII, Ocarina of Time, Undertale, Diablo II, World of Warcraft, Kingdom Hearts II, Nier Automata, Monster Hunter World, and Pokemon Yellow.

It kind of pisses me off that I end up experiencing some of the most interesting games via YouTube essays rather than actually playing the damn things, but what I actually like playing is not the same as what I actually think is valuable artistically and I hate that.

I think one of the most depressing things that has happened to me as I've gotten older is that most if not all of my friends no longer like the same games and such. As an autistic guy that connects with people easiest through games, it really hurts all my relationships and makes me kinda lonely.

I love this so much. "Play the game exactly how you need to." I have often had to tap out of an action/RPG narrative game and read the rest of the plot online because I couldn't get past some of the encounters. So being able to experience the entire story in-game is always amazing.

Tried Valheim again with the 1.0 release and yeah I still do not vibe with that game, I don't know why exactly. Gorgeous and the music is great but I just don't have fun.

After really giving competitive Pokemon VGC a try with Champions I think I give up. Yeah, outplaying an opponent is very fun, but getting outplayed is some of the least fun I've ever had in games. The highs are high but the lows are too low for my (admittedly poor) mental game. I'm easily tilted.

This makes me sound like a grumpy old man but I am not thrilled with the Ocarina of Time remake stuff they showed. They are changing so many things that didn't need changing and arguably make the game less unique. It doesn't need a jump button.

Dark Souls ruined action RPGs. While I loved them at the time, every game just copies them now and we are worse for it. No, I don't want every fight to make me sweat, I don't want to have to parry everything, I just want to fight dudes and feel cool and put together cool builds.

I hate that every kind of guide is video now. I'd kill for text-based tutorials. Sometimes videos are fine but most of the time I just want text and maybe pictures. My focus struggles make it so hard to just sit there and watch multi-hour tutorials on programming or Blender, etc.

2008 was a weird year I guess. Lots of good games but few that felt GotY worthy. Ultimately, WoW was at it's height for me then and I genuinely love Wrath of the Lich King. Felt like Mirror's Edge deserved more, though.

This would be so tragic. Twitch is and has been my main form of entertainment (outside playing games) for about 16 years now, and so many fantastic creators have no other real option. It's not like YouTube won't train stuff eventually too (or are already doing it).

I think if you needed any more evidence that the cuts are shortsighted and focused on cutting as deep and as fast as possible with little regard for the future, this is pretty definitive. That engine felt like magic in some spots. A colossal waste of talent and resources.

God I miss having any amount of optimism about games. There is no way in hell the OoT remake will be good. The original is perfect, and holds up. Least needed remake of all time. And KH4 looks like KH3 in terms of gameplay, which sucks. KH2 had that down perfectly.

I'm glad Mina the Hollower is apparently very good and I really want to play it, BUT I'm also very sad it isn't actually much like Zelda at all (at least what I've heard). Is nobody ever going to making classic Zelda-like games? One of the weirdest holes in the indie market.
