It's almost, like, the same gripe I have w/ Gazlowe in Undermine where I prolly wouldn't have nearly as much stigma with it if Gazlowe was still just a neutral guy and he wasn't supposed to be the leader of a main Horde group and they won't let him wear that shit.

Like, people can wax on about how it "isn't about factions anymore!" Or "Arator is neutral" all they fuckin' want, but at the end of the day, what do you associate Arator with for the 20 years that this character has existed in the game. Cuz lemme tell ya, green; it sure as shit ain't fuckin' QT.

12.1 really takes the cake though. It progresses neither the story nor characters. Zul'jan achieves nothing, Zul'jarra learns nothing, neither of their philosophies are explored, challenged, or reinforced. The elves DON'T show up. The loa DO abandon her (albeit not by choice). WE learn nothing.

The side quests, meanwhile, are... really really rough. Not only are most of them rather bland and bereft of cultural exploration, they're also just genuinely childish at times. I felt like I was being taught more about chores than I was about the themes of the blood elves.

It does *try* at times, like the story in Tranquillien about how the Voidstorm is exacerbating fear and isolation... but that story ultimately isn't about the blood elves, it's about Umbric and the Twilights. The blood elves are essentially set dressing for Midnight's campaign.

Unlike Zul'Aman and its exploration of the Amani loa, or Harandar and its exploration of Haranir isolation, Eversong Woods doesn't have anything to *say* about the blood elves. In an expansion about faith, their primary zone doesn't have a thesis about its main race.

Some more thoughts: I do think there is some opportunity here for a bit of faction representation. At the moment it feels a bit like Silvermoon is going at this void threat alone, with only the Vanguard coming to their aid. Surly the rest of the Horde could send troops to support?

This could really add to the escalating tensions in the city. As more Blood Knights and Magisters are called to reinforce the Sunwell, Forsaken and Orcs come to reinforce the city's defenses, putting the more Alliance based Vanguard even more on edge.

Blizz is, frankly, super weird about blood elves and fel. Thrall's Horde still allowed warlocks, gnomes can summon demons for the Argent Tournament, Eredar can literally join the Alliance. But blood elves are treated as uniquely evil for using fel out of desperation & trauma from a near genocide.
