Kiddo saw the poor birdies waiting in the snow by the empty feeders and rushed outside to feed them. Now he’s designing a cozy bird shelter to keep them warm… and I’m trying to gently explain to him that birds don’t really follow instructions when it comes to using shelters.

Cold but getting through it, I think this Bluejay actually enjoys the cold. She's been getting all the peanuts and mealworms she wants, often visiting for a quick bite every half hour or so. North Texas #photography #birds #birdphotography #nature #naturephotography #Texas #backyardbirds

This little chickadee had likely just woken up from its nocturnal hibernation. It was -39C this when I took this. Chickadees can drop their core temperature up to 10C and go into torpor at night to conserve energy in extreme weather. #birds 🌿
A little black-capped chickadee looks down from its perch on a black metal hook. Its face is wreathed in frost and its feather are puffed up as far as they go on this -39C morning.

A Snowy Egret, all feathers puffed out, or floofed. A small-medium sized white bird with long dark legs, with yellow backs, just seeing a flash of the yellow on its right leg. It also has a long dark bill and yellow between the eyes and around he dark pupils. This one is standing in long grass, angled and looking to the left of the camera. Overcast, no strong shadows.

Conquest, from the comic and TV show Invincible drawn in an Animal Crossing style with a chibi-like body. He’s a rhino character that’s orange and has his white and gray Viltrumite suit with a red outline surrounding him

A close-up, slightly angled shot of a European robin perched on a paved surface. The robin has a distinctive bright orange-red breast, a gray face, and a brown back and wings. Its dark eyes are clearly visible, and it appears to be looking down at the ground. The paved surface is made of square tiles and shows some cracks and a bit of green vegetation in the background. The bottom left corner of the image contains the text "@NoShaymin That".

Look at that grumpy face.
A close-up, eye-level shot of a European robin standing on a paved surface made of gray, rectangular stones. The robin is facing the camera directly, its body centered in the frame. It has a rounded, plump appearance with a prominent orange-red breast that extends down its front. The top of its head and back are a muted gray, and its wings are tucked neatly against its sides. Its legs are thin and dark, with small feet that are clearly visible on the stone surface. The robin's expression appears stern or annoyed, with its dark eyes and slightly furrowed brow giving it a determined look. The paved stones are textured and show signs of wear, with some moss or discoloration visible between the stones. The lighting is bright and casts a slight shadow under the bird, highlighting the texture of the stones and the bird's features. A watermark "@NoShayminThat" is visible in the bottom left corner of the image.

A new style of reference sheet, reminiscent of a field guide. Featuring one of my favorite birds!
A reference sheet primarily taken up by a crested caracara in a reclining pose that is floating in mid air. There are close up details of the eye, feather, and beak. There is the silhouette of a live oak in the background with spanish moss dripping from the branches. Saw palmettos and another oak limb take up the bottom of the reference. The text; Marsh, Crested Caracara (Caracara plancus) is featured prominently.
