So much of ths comedy of Abbott's era is pretty nasty if you watch it now. Sometimes including his, albeit to a lesser degree than most. What's clear though is that he never made that a hill to die on. He recognised the world was changing, and stepped away. I'm glad he's happily retired.

@naturemusicart.bsky.social hey: that Yamaha you bought with the hard case - have you looked at its place of manufacture? Pacificas usually come with soft cases, afaik. However, there are high-end pacificas made in japan, which are worth a *lot* more than $100.

Here are a few actual facts about welfare payments in the UK in response to fairly nasty, baseless headlines like the below, which are numerous and unfortunately widely believed by the UK population. 🧵

Started watching JoJo's adventures, for some reason I've been dropped in on season 4, the one set in Naples. Which seems fine. Is there a reason the male characters are wearing clothes that would look fantastic on a female figure? Is this just how jojo characters roll? Is it just a Naples thing?

Actually, one more - I feel like I should say this directly, so here goes. In the 90s and 00s, the groups I remember pursuing this strategy (hyperpublicize mugshots, Black crime statistics, etc) were Stormfront, the Klan, etc. Now it's the New York Times and the Telegraph. That is the story here.

From the weather forecast, this may be the last of the good summer days. We've not had it so oppressively or constantly hot here in the Borders as folk in England, so it'll be sad to see the good weather go. Today was lovely, we had a walk along some of the Borders Abbey Way.

This is a huge “for context” BBC bias in hard figures;
For context, Reform UK's unelected spokesperson Zia Yusuf has appeared on BBC Question Time a whole 38 times. That's more than the Green Party's people have appeared collectively on the show.

I mean obviously Stephenson’s idea of how the trans segregated would work and be policed is through social shame. There’s no legal doc to prove one’s “biological sex” to ask for but you Can Confront a suspected trans person and hopefully shame them into compliance

4 August 1935 | A Dutch Jewish girl, Betty Mol, was born in Amsterdam. In September 1944 she was incarcerated in #Theresienstadt Ghetto. On 6 October 1944 she was deported to Auschwitz and murdered in a gas chamber.
A black and white photo of a young girl focusing on something she is holding in her hands. She is pictured with her head bowed slightly towards, displaying a concentrated expression. The setting appears to be indoors, with light coming from the side, partially illuminating her face and her writing desk.

I really like how these crawler pots just in white have a simple elegance and really draw the focus to just the form of them. These are also smaller than my main line of pots so they really emphasise the delicate porcelain nature of the pieces. (Also makes em 100 quid cheaper to buy 😉)

Historian of science Margaret Rossiter (d #OTD in 2025) coined the term #MatildaEffect (1993). Named after suffragist Matilda Joslyn Gage, the Matilda Effect describes a systemic bias where women's scientific achievements are ignored, minimized, or directly attributed to their male colleagues. 1/3
A black-and-white photograph of the pathbreaking American historian of science, Margaret Walsh Rossiter (1944–2025), renowned for coining "the Matilda effect" and documenting the buried history of women in science. Seated in an indoor setting with a soft, blurred background, Rossiter is positioned from the waist up, facing forward with a warm, open smile. She has short, curly gray hair and wears dark, thick-rimmed glasses. She's wearing a light-colored, long-sleeved shirt patterned entirely with small, dark polka dots. She holds a heavy, open book resting on her lap or desk, her left hand steadying the right-hand pages while her right hand rests on the left-hand pages, lightly gripping a pencil. The overall composition is intimate and studious, casting her as an approachable yet deeply focused scholar. The mood is intellectually vibrant and welcoming, reflecting a life dedicated to uncovering the truth.

An underreported part of UK Transphobe Lawfare™ is that when they lose, they just... say they won. For all the regrettable sway they do have in courts/govt etc, their real power is in the press. So if they lose, they just pretend they didn't and their press friends print the lie. It's ubiquitous.

What Féile an Phobail row has shown is that women’s rights are at risk — just not from a tiny trans minority
Belfast Telegraph27 Jul 2026ALLISON MORRIS
I’ve thought long and hard about commenting on the controversy over the cancellation of the Women’s Rights Network (WRN) event at Féile an Phobail — not because I don’t have an opinion, but because it is a debate that attracts the most toxic elements.

WRN NI was not a group I was familiar with beforehand, so I did some research.

No speakers were listed in the Féile programme for the planned event, which in itself is odd as there are for almost every other of the 90-plus debates and discussions.

The group has since announced who its speakers were to be in a series of online posts.

My research took me down quite the rabbit hole — a who’s who of the anti-trans movement not just on this island but Europe-wide.

I don’t pretend to understand their motivation.

In fact, I remain baffled as to why in one of the most dangerous places for women to live in Europe, the group — which has spoken out about femicide before — is obsessing about a small minority instead of the actual dangers we face from domestic violence and femicide.

I have worked for decades covering violence against women and girls in all the distressing forms that takes.

I know the names of every woman and child murdered in Northern Ireland in the last 10 years without even having to look them up.

Not a single one was caused by a trans woman — I checked the list twice just to be sure.

None of them were murdered in a public toilet either, which having looked at the online posts of WRN and their many affiliates, is apparently the most dangerous place on earth for women, with trans predators lurking in every cubicle.

Apart from the absurdity of much of the group’s argument regarding the perceived dangers of trans women, the claim that women are being silenced by Féile is the most disingenuous of them all.
