As much as I hated supporting epic in the bad old days, the hubris of these people thinking 1: the software is more important than the nurses using it 2: even if they managed to make it have feature parity with epic good luck getting nurses and care staff to switch

I remember after graduating from the 2 year program I did for IT, and just being so dissatisfied with it, decided to go back to school for electrical engineering like I had always wanted. Worried I won't finish that before everything gets turbo fucked

When the bad man finally drops dead we can all move on. We'll still be sharing a country with countless people who gleefully aided and abetted his crimes but they probably won't do it again

The ace combat 4 weapon select beeps were surprisingly pleasant, also the little attention tone that some transmissions from the awacs had is actually really nice imo

I played through the demo last night and find myself very excited! I'm a radio communications field engineer as my day job and so far this managed to nail the vibes of maintaining remote radio towers, and I also love the attention to detail on the base station equipment

Keep in mind too, light in a fiber optic cable is moving about 60% the speed it would be in air (recalled from memory could be very wrong), or a vacuum. Higher bandwidth ≠ less latency

Not air gapping critical systems by default is just... An odd choice to me, if you need to connect to another remote site just deal with the brief headache of commissioning licensing a point to point microwave

From what I recall it was named after the French Canadian fur trappers that would come to the region to trade, for the twin cities it's a bit odd as from my experience it tends to be a pretty insular community

I think the worst case of this was like getting paged out to tower somewhere in Western Wisconsin because of a microwave backhaul issue... Which turned out to be a case of someone shooting the tower

(from my untrained, unqualified observers perspective), what even got us to this point that everything needs to run in a browser, and needs a bunch of cloud compute behind it, it all just seems supremely wasteful

Canis Latransciever @xeniarf.bsky.social · 19/08/2026

A lot of the radio towers I maintain are these really strange places where you already kind of have the feeling you're not supposed to be there. then the actual equipment shelters are weird time capsules as well. It's wild seeing site logs going back to the 80's or even 70's

Public transit accessibility in rural areas is so under discussed it's criminal. Not having a car in the area I grew up in is practically a death sentence. I remember having to drive about 80 miles round trip for work.

solar energy is still a massive, tremendous net good for the environment, but don't fall for greenwashing on top of that. it's still environmentally damaging, in a small way.
