There are a fair few steam games I was hyped for when they were first announced that have since released and revealed to be slop, some of which I think I'd really enjoy! But its *incredibly* easy to just not buy them and play something else, theres CONSTANTLY so much out there which doesnt touch it.

I think this is a bad decision on a wide variety of grounds, but it will be an interesting test of what the barometer is of whether or not audiences actually care - as well as how obvious the "slop factor" is in the final product.

I'm less worried with quantum because it's likely to be the sort of thing where sure, a government can do it against a HVT at vast expense - not literally "all passwords become useless overnight". There are AI folks claiming there's a math breakthrough there that I am very skeptical of.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. If anyone (AI or otherwise) manages to break general form public-key encryption it would be basically the complete annihilation of the internet as it exists today. I'll worry about when (if) there is ever concrete evidence of it.

FYI if you got a measles vaccine when you are kid, it might not still be effective. They can do a test to check - I basically had lost all immunity to measles! Fortunately you can get another round of the measles vaccine as an adult no problem.

It’s Wastewater Wednesday! How are COVID levels? We’re using two sources to help us keep track of the country and our state of Oregon. Thank you to @michael-hoerger.bsky.social for the map and graph, and OHA for continuing to track data coming from our wastewater treatment centers!

Yeah there would have to be some specific drive towards new ethically trained ones given the knowledge we have now. I suspect it is more likely we'd wind up with a frostbite-treatment situation instead where we grapple with the ethics directly. (thx @glassbottomsara.bsky.social for the analogy)

I still have a _LOT_ of concerns about the ethics of using AI tools, but this sort of application seems like the kind of thing that might bring actual value. A more contextual version of existing tools we already have like automatic case correction or "hey you used = instead of ==" instead of slop.
