The hearse is paid for by the state. Swedish healthcare might be eroding fast, but they'll at least still cover the cost of not feeding the rats in town.

This would be cool under the condition that it has a similar failure rate as the other tesla systems and is used extensively by billionaires. I'm all for an oceangate type situation.

its really funny how willingness to throw trans people under the bus is a 100% accuracy indicator for exactly the kind of guy a politician is and yet every single time we have to go through the "noooo hes not a spineless opportunist who'll say whatever is convenient its different this time" cycle

I'm not arguing with the pro-starvation crowd anymore. If you believe that people shouldn't have food, regardless of their financial status, I hope you die in a fucking fire. I hope all the worst things happen to you. I'm so done with this being a "debate."
Fuck you.

“He captured Harper’s Ferry with his 19 men so few, And frightened old Virginia till she trembled through and through, They hanged him for a traitor, They themselves the traitor crew But his soul is marching on” On this day in 1859 John Brown began his raid on Harper’s Ferry

Dems have been relying on the ablative minority ever since they were forced into being the less racist party when LBJ signed the civil rights act. Throwing us under the bus is the only strategy they know. Especially since they've abandoned policy positions that actually help people.

The lack of alternative is part of the problem, and the dems have ridden the expectation that we don't have a choice into failure after failure. The hope is that they learn that throwing vulnerable people to the wolves actively costs them before it costs everyone. But they don't learn.

The Midterms
Two trans people are being confronted by a Democrat Consultant type who is pleading with them: "I understand the Democrat backtracked on trans rights, but you have to vote for him! Otherwise, normal people's rights will be threatened!"

Hey, just don't blame us when dems lose again. If we are not a big enough portion of the vote to listen to and make concessions to, then we aren't a big enough portion of the vote to be to blame. Can't have it both ways. The red line is simple: don't throw vulnerable people under the bus.

Xan Maus @xanamaus.bsky.social · 15/10/2026
If you think they'll say it explicitly rather than relying on euphemism and dog whistles, you've really misunderstood how the dems work. They have been reaching for the mythical centrist vote by announcing that they aren't going to stop the republicans from throwing us into the meat grinder.

Think about how little your representatives have said or done to defend their colleague Ilhan Omar. Now try to imagine how little they will do when it's our turn.

It's a solidly red state anyway, if there was any hope for it, Graham wouldn't have been in that seat for so long.

Doing so has, historically, just gotten leftists shouted down because Dems can't abide any criticism of their Dear Leader. The dem running for Senate where I vote has just put out an ad promising to throw vulnerable minorities into the proverbial meat grinder. I'm voting for Mothra.

I'm against using generative AI in pretty much every circumstance. It isn't apologia, it's pointing out the growing uselessness of the word to describe a category of things.

The trouble here is that AI has become such a marketing buzzword that pretty much everything with an algorithm has been rebranded as AI. Including spell check, audio normalization tools, and anything that was called "smart" after around 2005. So it depends on your tolerance for pedantry.

It has been used by a number of different groups over the years, and in the American context it is generally read as interchangeable with the AFA two flags. But in the European context, especially in germany and scandinavia, it is a bit more contentious due to SPD betrayal of the Left.

In the age of AI slop, those differences and irregularities or perceived mistakes are part of what makes the art human. Especially as you develop and improve over time. It's not just about a single piece but one's entire body of work over time. Use the reference, you don't need permission to create
010 1
Xan Maus @xanamaus.bsky.social · 13/10/2026
Asking friends to help with reference poses and photographs is also a great way to help make that art start feeling like a shared experience rather than something you are imposing on others. Highly recommend.

the cool thing about using reference is that the more you use it (and, the smarter you use it), the less often you need it, and the more you're able to make good use of it. i did not become a good artist until i started treating reference like a tool rather than a concession

Yeah... Yeah. The worst part is when you are finally in a place to be able to do something about it, the process of getting there ends up being the tipping point for the very things you most needed to keep together and there's nothing you can do about it.

I haven't actually seen evidence of source judgement from LLMs aside from humans actively adding weight and being selective about training data in the first place. Something a homeroller might do, but not the big ones.

Xan Maus @xanamaus.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
Sure, humans make slop. I've been in the airport book shops. It's just the flood of slop now drowning out credible sources and even replacing many of the methods we used to use to find credible sources in the first place.
110 1
Xan Maus @xanamaus.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
Humans aren't great at it, otherwise we would have abandoned capitalism a long time ago. LLMs don't actually try to do it at all. But they are programmed to be agreeable and sound confident. Which is one way con men and grifters convince people to trust them.

We've never been open on Wednesdays. In the 55 years this museum has been operating. I know why the AI slop sites say we are, but it is not a mistake any human travel writer would make.
110 1
Xan Maus @xanamaus.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
With people you have to be able to judge what is and is not a credible source, but generally a credible source will give a reason they might be trusted and tends to be consistent in their niche. LLMs don't have that base judgement and will take data from anywhere.

Ran into an AI generated tourist resource website last night and found the page for the museum I have been running for the last few years. I know where some of the information they scraped came from, but what was on the page added a bunch of details that were not in the sources and were very wrong.

Xan Maus @xanamaus.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
Calling LLMs "predictive text generators" or "markov chain with extra steps" is more of a reminder that they do not "know" and they can't judge truth or accuracy. The words are just statistically likely to appear together in that context based on their training data. They are not to be trusted.

How does one make it that long without getting frustrated and throwing it out the proverbial window? Every time I have interacted with AI it has been an active hindrance to what I am trying to do/find. Worse than literally nothing. Especially with search engines and customer support.

I think we need a whole lot more than voting. Politicians will not solve any problems that we can't solve ourselves just like they will not grant rights and freedoms that we do not demonstrate that we can take for ourselves.

It was SC Democrats publicly voicing opposition (in a very southern style) to same sex marriage that convinced me that I was not going to be safe until I got out of the country entirely. Glad I got out, but sad that fifteen years later and they are still clutching their hoods.
