Comparing this to the state of affairs in the US, you see that both parties have such a Reaganite aversion to government agencies and programs, they would fight any scheme that wouldn't generate private profit at least at some step. See Medicare for All.

Social Democrats and progressives like it for freeing women from some of the burden of patriarchy. But the underlying consensus is that government can and should do things that achieve social policy goals that the market can never deliver.

The explicit reasoning behind this is to ensure that women who quit their job or reduce hours to take care of a relative at home won't end up impoverished in old age because of it. This arrangement appears to enjoy broad political support. Conservatives like it for family values.

In Germany, if you spend ten+ hours per week caring for a person who requires such care for reasons of age, illness, or disability, the Pflegeversicherung (Care Insurance Agency) will pay Social Security contributions on your behalf. This will give you higher retirement benefits.

The way people talk about/treat far-right people/policies AND their targets today, is how they would have treated far-right people/policies —including Slave Codes, Jim Crow, Fascists, Nazis, etc.— AND their targets in the past, had they been there/then. Compliance and compromise are NOT resistance.

The current(illegitimate) occupants of the US White House led a violent, attempted self-coup. Afterward, the Supreme Court forced him onto the ballots —in contravention of the US Constitution— and the highest-ranking Dem politicians didn't even protest the ruling. MSM normalized it all and moved on.
