Remember when the Union played in Mexico and Cavan was the best player in the field and Carnell subbed him off for no reason?

I still don’t understand why that Union half went to 52 min. Maybe 2-3 min of injury time. I don’t think it was explained on the broadcast?

One way to grow the league and make more money: ease salary restraints and sign better players, which creates faster, better soccer to watch. Owners way is to create more games but keep salary restraints so they don’t have to spend more but instead sells more games for slightly more money

Eric @ericgrote.bsky.social · 21/08/2026
This literally makes the games matter less. Rich guys running leagues are really really not good at their jobs.

I’m the biggest sicko I know and even this is confusing and too much for me. YOU ARE NOT GROWING THE LEAGUE BY DOING THIS.

The arguments trotted out against leaving fossil fuels in the ground are strikingly similar to the arguments trotted out against ending the slave trade, 230 years ago. 1. If we stop trading slaves / extracting fossil fuels, Britain’s economy will collapse 🧵

Big conservation wins still happen. In Maine, a partnership of conservation organizations protected 78,000 acres, connecting more than half a million acres of conserved land for wildlife, communities and climate resilience.

A lot of soccer people I follow on here are showing they really don’t know what they’re talking about. Sometimes a team has their best game of the tournament vs a team that has their worst game of the tournament. There are so many things that went wrong but mostly their quality on and off the ball.

Eric @ericgrote.bsky.social · 07/07/2026
Posted this at half. It was good for 10 min until Freese ruined it by not having composure. Team couldn’t save it bc he didn’t have composure. Then it was too little quality and too late to break down Belgium. The orange disease led to this.

Eric @ericgrote.bsky.social · 07/07/2026
It boils down to two things. The US has very little composure on the ball and very little tenacity on defense. Fix those two things and they’ll come back and win. Also, they need to press the first 20 and get back into this.

Trump has thrown the karmic balance out of whack. The only remedy is to insert a being of pure goodness and light into the XI: a footballer so ethically immaculate that he bends the universe back toward justice. An apostle of the beautiful game. Someone the Soccer Gods simply cannot root against.
