Huh, Bluesky seems to be boosting the background noise, reducing the signal to noise ratio. It sounds like I've just eaten an energy pill in Pac-Man.

another old trick for cool scifi vibes is to use Frank Lloyd Wright's Ennis House. the tile work is iconic, and you can see the house used as Deckard's apartment in Blade Runner or you could do what Babylon 5 did, and make glowing plastic tile recreations for columns!

The Badger trotted forward a pace or two; then grunted, "H'm! Company," and turned his back and disappeared from view. "That's *just* the sort of fellow he is!" observed the disappointed Rat. "Simply hates Society! Now we shan't see any more of him to-day."

Zoë Blade @www.zoeblade.com · 29/09/2026
Badger, of course, seems more autistic: There was a rustle behind them, proceeding from a hedge wherein last year's leaves still clung thick, and a stripy head, with high shoulders behind it, peered forth on them. "Come on, old Badger!" shouted the Rat.

Last year it was house-boating, and we all had to go and stay with him in his house-boat, and pretend we liked it. He was going to spend the rest of his life in a house-boat. It's all the same, whatever he takes up; he gets tired of it, and starts on something fresh."

It seems an inherent issue with being so credulous that their response to a mistranslation is "Wow, how magical! What a miracle!" rather than "Hold on a second, can we double-check the translation on that bit, please?"

I mean, I can believe a young woman had a baby, and that an old man had a walking stick / magic wand. I take issue with the supernatural parts, naturally (as it were).

Pen, watercolor, black & white charcoal pencil.

Another featured piece from the Spooky Pants book.

A man in a sweater stands with his hands on his hips looking out of a large window with the curtains open. Things aren’t looking good outside, reader. A massive winged demon is emerging from the clouds as dozens of little ghosts and bone demons rip through the sky. On the ground below we see townsfolk running through the grass. Our man in the window is in no mood for this. He lets us know, “Oh, I am in no mood for this.” His dog looks out the window as well, wagging its tail.

Fantasia (1940) inspired drawing. I think I could’ve gone a little heavier with the chaos outside but we’ll try again with fresh drawings this October. I like how the clouds turned out. Trying to balance my sloppy lines with more detail can be tricky but I think we achieved a good result.

On the pulsewidth, literally the width of a pulse wave: notebook.zoeblade.com/Pulsewidth.h...
A pulsewidth, or duty cycle, is simply the width of a pulse wave, as in the amount of time it spends high versus low. This is expressed as a ratio, often as a percentage.

It can be automatically changed back and forth, known as pulsewidth modulation. This is usually accomplished with an LFO.

A pulse wave with a pulsewidth of 50% is more specifically a square wave.

The principle of making the first half of each cycle longer or shorter than the second half can also be applied to other periodic waveforms, but it usually isn't, in order to simplify the design of the oscillator.

The VCS3 sports one of the very few types of analogue oscillators to seamlessly transition between sawtooth and triangle waves in this manner, as does the A-100's A-146 LFO. In the digital realm, it's the basis of PD synthesis, Casio's short-lived rival to Yamaha's FM synthesis. This is exemplified in the CZ-101.

Ballpoint pen on paper. A man in his PJs is tucked into his bed. He's upset because the bed has been lifted off the ground by a pack of small, mischievous creatures. We can only see 9 of them in the image but there are likely many more since they're all working together to lift the heavy bed frame. As the creatures run with the bed they chant, "hup hup hup hup hup hup hup hup hup." The man in the bed wants no part of this. "Put me down. No more hups," he says. It's unclear where they are going or what is happening. There is no punchline. There is little to no context. You're either with the hup team or you're out. Thank you for reading these.

The image is of a four panel comic.
In the first panel we see Sarah, the protagonist, next to a stick figure labeled “AI”. The stick figure says, “my outputs look just like yours now.”
The second panel zooms in on Sarah’s face. Above her we see text reading “I think”.
The third panel zooms in closer on Sarah’s face. Text above her reads “you missed”.
The fourth panel shows Sarah drawing happily in a sunlit room. The text above her reads “the point”.

It allows me to concentrate on one thing at a time. I hear it's common for people to intend to spend a day composing, then accidentally end up spending it, say, auditioning snare drum samples instead. I can avoid that, at least. Basically, I've stumbled across the ancient art of *linear* editing!

Yes, exactly! I usually compose a whole track in Reason, using SubTractor to make quick mockup patches without getting distracted by sound design details while composing. Then I import the MIDI file into Reaper and record the parts one at a time on analogue synths.

You learnt so much business sense from that game, in a Frank Reynolds kind of way. Add extra salt to the fries so people drink more. Water down the drinks so they're getting less. The game was sponsored by a prominent bank.

You know what was a good metaphor-based user interface? In Theme Park, you as the manager had to negotiate. You do this by extending (pay more) and contracting (pay less) your arm like they're doing, until the two arms meet for a handshake. You have to do this before the pile of biscuits runs out.
