I think the difference is catholic doctrine being seen as having salvation be based on belief and acts done, while protestant salvation is seen as entirely belief based

the lack of any testing at all is maybe the most offensive part for me. they just make claims and let you interrogate them instead of like, making something that they understand

The Social Reckoning is a movie about how liberal institutions utterly lost a war they barely even knew they were fighting nymag.com/intelligence...
By the time the rest of Horwitz's Facebook Files reporting came out, the controversial mechanism behind that 64 percent figure - captured in an internal presentation given in 2016, a full decade before the film
— was well on its way to eating the entire company. In its legacy products, including Facebook's News Feed, algorithmic recommendations had become more central over time, not just for pages but for the next post users would see, deprioritizing social connections in favor of what the company started calling "unconnected" content. By August 2020, the main tensions of the film
- that Facebook's self-serving algorithms were distorting its users' interactions with and views of one another, and the world in general, and that the company didn't care — were not just obvious but quaint. That's when Instagram Reels, Facebook's answer to and clone of TikTok, started rolling out to American users.
Soon, old notions of the feed, and of "public squares," and even "social" media in general, would be overwhelmed by billions of individualized and alienated For You pages, stocked primarily with "unconnected" content from strangers, brands, and influencers, filled by far more advanced algorithms than before. It was a post-social retreat into an opaque system both far larger and more thoroughly designed to serve Meta's needs.
Facebook wasn't just ignoring the problem, in other words. It actually saw, in the source of the problem, its entire future: a platform that didn't depend as much on sharing and posting to grow engagement and consumption; a social network not only supported by targeted advertising, but remade entirely in its image.
In Meta's profit centers, it's recommendations all the way down. This was a view that took seriously the idea, embraced by companies like Twitter and Facebook, that its projects of "democratizing" online publishing and communication were aligned with the project of democracy. The most obvious mistake here was to assume that the tech industry's Obama-era politics were inherent and stable. The bigger but more subtle mistake was to conceive of tech platforms like Facebook as para-civic institutions that, if designed correctly, and built with just the right safeguards, could actually fortify the democratic process, or at least extend the end of history for a few more years. This resulted in a weird dynamic, rendered in near-parody by Sorkin, in which many of the people attempting to hold companies like Facebook accountable — government officials, but critics and journalists too - took marketed claims about the importance of election integrity and free speech and disinformation more seriously than the companies themselves.

i think the issue is the truck is no longer proportionately as wide as the road because they're putting it in wider spaces so they have to find other ways to make it scary. american infrastructure claims another victim

AND it's showing that they just have the power and force to just drop something like this onto a major city. You have been marked as their target and they seem to have absolute dominion over this place, the ability to turn an american city into a warzone if the target is valuable enough.

i get that sonic generations kind of has to be escalate the stakes of everything but the truck is scary because it kind of shows that GUN just does not care about protecting people or infrastructure and would rather catch (or really, kill) you at any cost.

my most boomer take is that putting a bunch of weapons on this truck just makes it lamer. the original truck is scary because its as wide as the road and will chase you regardless of the collateral damage. also its probably a reference to the giant murder truck from Lupin III: The Mystery of Mamo?
GUN Truck with ridiculous attached saw blades gets eaten by godzilla Sonic Generations GUN Truck with ridiculous added saw blades. It does not cover up the entire road despite its size. The original GUN Truck. It's scary because its a big truck that covers up the entire road. Mystery of Mamo murder truck about to flatten three Interpol cars.

just so everyone knows, the title IX changes also made it even harder to report sexual assult as well as making it legal to descriminate against trans people. anti-trans means pro-rape. every time.

“This is not a dark chapter in Cornell’s history, it’s a morbid pattern” Editorial Board at The Cornell Sun absolutely fucking your shit UP www.cornellsun.com/article/2026...
We refuse for this victim to be reduced to just another story.
Cornell has failed to protect its students. Cornell has failed to address the growing issue of sexual assault on campus with its pathetic task force. Cornell has failed the student allegedly raped by those seven men at Chi Phi in October 2024. Cornell has failed her. Cornell has failed us.

To Matthew Ingalls, Jonathan Newell, Winston Lee, Gillio Lopes, Diego Sarabia, Scott Norris and Scott Kretzschmar: We know who you are and we refuse to let you benefit from this University's concealment.
