while i enjoy the final fantasy resonance wine conceptually i do think it is but a pale shadow of the way final fantasy used to move, where lightning was modelling menswear for prada from the stately manor in valhalla where she conspired to kill her sister

personally think if the line is going to be “no gen ai in anything” then the you might have to consider divesting from AAA games entirely because this is just what the industry is now, whether they admit it so publicly or not

can't believe I won a roundhouse key (they didn't order enough so I have to wait to get mine in the mail) I was so sure I was going to get 13th or 9th

Video games are rad because there are more great games than anyone could ever finish, yet there will still be a guy with a tattoo of Vector the Crocodile who does nothing but grind thousands of hours of Sonic Heroes speedruns. And deep down, you know that guy is a realer one than you will ever be.

I played really bad in top 16 winners, and then really scared in top 16 losers. I didn't realize until after how in my own head I was. normally I think my mental game is my best strength as an FG player top 8 I'm very happy that I completely tightened up on that, despite 10000 execution errors

my phone got absolutely zero signal at the venue so I couldn't say but I somehow got 3rd out of 98 at avatar at roundhouse. I had very little expectations going into it with the patch so??? it was hours ago so I'm calmed down but my brain felt like this for an hour straight afterwards

the crazy thing about this trend is how badly this exposes that these people have the same attachment and awareness of video games as scalpers do for pokemon

like if someone plays sf4 rollback, I'm not really judging that hard since I don't think it's moving the needle at all on AI investment either way. I might think the person is slightly corny for not being ideologically against AI, but compared to buying the fable game it's whatever

wubbiq @wubbiq.bsky.social · 07/10/2026

I mostly feel disrupting capital is the only thing that makes changes, so if someone doesn't hold the perfect position on something relatively small, I don't judge as long as they do the big stuff

been thinking about protest generally. is it as important to withhold a view from a stream as it is to march at a protest as it is to not spend money on a product? is it just a moral failing to not just be principled and do it all? is that reasonable or helpful expectation? I don't know

100

wubbiq @wubbiq.bsky.social · 07/10/2026

yeah but (especially now) old games aren't safe either ;_; do you just have to be lucky that your fav old game doesn't get it's own moral quandary? a slop rollback port, a TO/community leader not backing down from a dumb decision, etc

100

wubbiq @wubbiq.bsky.social · 07/10/2026

I dunno what to think of it. my brain is weird so I don't feel worn down personally, but others must be so tired

000

wubbiq @wubbiq.bsky.social · 07/10/2026

there's also the ones that I feel like most people don't know about unless you are really in the weeds: +r rollback, fpan games, granblue community split, others not mentioned, and surely a bunch I don't know about

100

wubbiq @wubbiq.bsky.social · 07/10/2026

it feels like the past three years have been rapid fire moral questions if you like fighting games. SNK, SNK again (adding ronaldo), evo, riot, avatar, claude coded rollback was it always like this and I just don't remember? or might not even be unique to FGs, and just how the world is now

Decompiling closed source software using Claude into non-functional open source software is not how this shit works but more to the point if I go to a project’s website that purports to be about this shit and see “Pricing” that’s a huge red flag.

as a big speedrun fan it's been really interesting to me to see that individual level Speedrun style games seem to be a slight trend to fill in for this kind of space, but more pallettable by being bite sized

I've been running a video game "book club" and i've been similarly thinking how modern player expectation hates "replaying". I'm tearing my hair out trying to explain to people that boss runs or backtracking aren't just "filler" or that score chasing can be a great core motivation of playing a game

SRC changed their terms of use yesterday, and released a news post with an FAQ. They make it sound like not a big deal. It's a big deal. The Creative Commons licence is gone. They claim ownership over the data now. Thread about what this means, and what we can do about it 🧵
