Last week I got to attend the EMBO regeneration meeting, and now I’m flying out to Cologne to attend the CMMC meeting. Am I going to be completely exhausted and hopelessly behind on lab work? Yes! Am I super excited to see all these cool talks? Double Yes!!!

Just got back home from Krems after attending the EMBO regeneration meeting. It was an absolutely fantastic week full of super exciting science. I’m already looking forward to the 2028 edition.

Super excited to share my postdoctoral work at @imbavienna.bsky.social @viennabiocenter.bsky.social - We discovered that some retrotransposons, or "jumping genes" 🧬, are able to spread from cell to cell via a new viral infectivity route. A short thread: 🧵👇 (1/7)

One of the reasons I am so happy with our current roof top apartment is that it has Betonkerntemperierung. Without any air conditioning it has a very consistent temperature with a maximum of 23C even in the middle of summer.

🚨Can embryos regenerate their tails? A question I had. With support from @biologists.bsky.social, Val Wilson, Elly Tanaka and Wouter🙏, I visited Vienna to start by cutting axolotl embryo tail buds. The answer: Not always!😮...Sparking a fun and exciting collaboration that is only the beginning.

🚨 New preprint 🚨 Massive shoutout to first author @abinagui.bsky.social !!! The common view is that regenerative competence declines with age. We challenge this idea by showing that axolotl tail regenerative competence is emerges during a defined embryonic window. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

Previously we had shown that axolotl tail regeneration occurs in the absence of somitogenesis. In the updated manuscript we propose that vertebral segmentation during tail regeneration occurs through a process of buckling instability. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
