I’m making dinosaur chicken nuggets for my one year old and realized I didn’t include any pterodactyls. I know she isn’t old enough to care, yet. However, looking at a plate sadly bereft of any flying reptile-shaped chicken, I feel this might be the beginning of her villain arc’s tragic backstory.

In terms of new mechanics, hone counters are more outside-the-box than they appear at first. This is the first time a counter directly affects an object *other* than the one the counter is on. This was a clever design and presented a unique set of challenges and considerations. I love it. #WotCstaff

TIL that to fairly handle disputes and facilitate what we now call fog of war in tabletop war games, “umpires,” who were neutral players that had memorized all the complex rules, were employed as far back as the 1800s. It makes me wonder what the first instance of something like a Magic judge was.

One point the mechanics article glossed over: A resolving spell with paradigm is always exiled. This matters for the second and subsequent card with any given name. Even though that spell isn't setting up any new copies, the card is still exiled. The reminder text is clear, hopefully. #WotCstaff

I finally watched Superman (2025); it came out around when my daughter was born and I’m finally finding time for stuff like that again. Anyway, it kinda slapped IMO. Was it perfect? No. But it was fun, it knew what it was about, and was a breath of fresh air compared to the genre at large right now.

A question I have been asked a lot is “What happens if Shark Shredder brings back a creature with first strike?” Since that new creature hasn’t dealt combat damage yet, it gets to deal combat damage in the second combat damage step with the slow creatures that don’t have first strike. #WotCstaff
