Excited to have another article published before the end of my PhD! This time in a new interdisciplinary journal from @academic.oup.com. It’s titled “Wrong Place, Wrong Time: Bathsheba and the Geography of Women’s Fear” and is another little insight into my PhD thesis. doi.org/10.1093/9780...
Abstract:
In 2 Samuel 11, David commits adultery with Bathsheba after lusting after her when seeing her bathing from his rooftop. There is no indication that Bathsheba welcomes David's advances, and no explicit consent is given. Instead, Bathsheba has been blamed by interpreters because she is in a place where David can see her, and therefore she allows David the opportunity to have sex with her. Arguably, Bathsheba's narrative is contingent on how she chooses to physically occupy a space. This links to the geography of women's fear, a concept established by social geographer Gill Valentine, which explores the relationship between women's fear of male violence and women's subsequent perception and use of public space. This article uses the narrative of David and Bathsheba as a lens through which to explore how women are expected to change and restrict their use of physical space due to the fear of male violence. This article is interdisciplinary in nature by bringing biblical studies and social geography together. It also draws upon parallels between contemporary society and 2 Samuel 11 to gain a deeper understanding of the biblical text, as well as shedding light on our own behaviors. Ultimately, it will be seen that women do not have the freedom to occupy a space in the same way men do, either in the biblical text or out of it.

Back in September, my anthropologist colleague Ida Hartmann and I hosted a workshop with amazing folks from multiple disciplines. Today, the first article went live for our special issue on the proceedings! Check out Katherine Southwood’s return migration to her work: www.mdpi.com/2077-1444/15...
“A Nils Kilm symposium at the university of Copenhagen, September 12-13” is in text in the left top corner. The image is mainly brown with white text, but blurry stripes of dark blue, dark green, light green, ivory, orange, and fuchsia are in the middle. At the center it says “transgressing boundaries” and in the right hand lower corner it says “biblical and social scientific studies of migration”.
