Penitent sinner or fiery saint? Mary Magdalene is one of the Bible's most divisive figures. These paintings show why
Known as the "apostle to the apostles”, the controversial and multifaceted saint Mary Magdalene is shrouded in mythology and mystery. What do these artworks reveal about her?

I live across the street from David Bowie's childhood home. It's been a fun little fact since moving in 8 yrs ago. That all changed in January. Since then, I've found myself someplace I *never* thought I'd be: tired of Bowie. A 🧵 on celebrity, cultural memory, and community engagement...

Jason Arday was hounded to death by a bitter racist and the complicit media in this country. His accuser was sacked for racism, the media were warned repeatedly about the risks of their persecution and now a man is dead because they cared more about clicks than his life.

I have said it before, but I like to teach ancient texts topographically. That's what makes ToposText so fun. Every toponym from Livy, Thucydides, and over 800 more authors—plus trans. & links to the original Greek or Latin—from Spain to India. Such a cool thing to teach & read with. topostext.org

Deadline: 4 June 2028

Series Editors: Christina H. Lee, Princeton University, and Julia Schleck, Colorado State University

Connected Worlds in Early Modernity explores the cultural, literary, artistic, and devotional works emerging from global networks that interconnected Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Africa during a transformative era marked by heightened and swift transoceanic exchanges (1450–1700). The series examines how individuals and communities across multiple continents cultivated distinctive, transcultural expressions through connections forged via conquest, trade, diplomacy, and religious contestation. The series publishes monographs and essay collections from across disciplines and methodological approaches.
