For the 3rd straight year, I have the privilege of writing a horror-themed “mystery” event for Seattle’s Museum of Pop Culture. Obviously, I use a lot of clues based on exhibits. Happy to find these masks from @crobertcargill.bsky.social’s Black Phone. Now: can I squeeze them into the theme?

Man, I have so many questions about this targeted ad: Are people not understanding me, and I just don’t know it? Only “may?” Is there a chance I’m unfixably unintelligible regardless of age? THIS WOMAN IS A SENIOR???
AI image of a very pretty woman in her 30s or 40s. Or maybe 20s? AI sucks, man.

Underneath it read “Senior women may understand you”

Stop bugging me to go see The Odyssey. We have The Odyssey at home.
1977 board game for The Odyssey. Colorful board, filled with danger and adventure. Conan ripoff art in the box. Probably the best thing I own.

ValhalLaw, my new comic series with Pedro Andreo, starring a deadbeat attorney with the gift of unbreakable contracts will be in stores soon! Pre-orders are a HUGE help, so let your local shop know if you want to read about queer and non-binary weirdos facing off against Norse gods and monsters.
Eydis, a blonde attorney, holds justice scales over a floor of fire. Gods are arguing on either side of the scale. Things seem fine.

Art by the brilliant Pedro Andreo.
Colors by the equally brilliant Sivakmi Mohan.
Logo design by the somehow ALSO brilliant Kyle Hinze.

This is the most erudite I’ve ever looked (deciding where to place Skeletor on the board).
Me, carefully placing Skeletor on the board for the game Clash of Eternia. I look VERY smart.

A fun benefit of writing serialized fiction with comments turned on is it lets you meet your readers where they are. (I’m writing under the pen name “Opaque Dragon” for reasons that are not entirely clear to me. Ba-Dum Tiss.)
A reader of my story commented that decapitated heads are never funny. I responded that this new info does not bode well for my new one-man play “Billy Jenkins And His Bag of Very Funny Decapitated Heads”

For reasons I can’t fathom, Reddit occasionally sends me articles it thinks I want to read from the Claude AI forum. It’s all the worst humans on earth, obviously. But a post today really stood out. Guy tried to voice a complaint to the company’s chatbot. Perfect no notes etc etc
Dipshit AI dork using software that is meant to eliminate human jobs by replacing people with shittier machine versions is stuck talking to that software’s chatbot when he asks for help, and told no humans are available.

AI sucks.

For reasons that matter to no one, I built a playlist of movies set in the future, listed in canonical chronological order. 2025 Armageddon, Pacific Rim, and Timecop: The Berlin Decision were all set in 2025. 2026 brings us to Doom and Metropolis. If I’m missing any, let me know!

I’ve heard great things about the ping pong movie, but the most impressive acting that Timothee Chalamet ever put on screen is in Bones and All where he had to pretend that KISS is good.
Trump and Gene Simmons together, just two very unproblematic people hanging out. No biggie.

Some days being a writer means scripting comics or adding words to a novel. Some days it means shooting a music video for a song called “Sweet Children Let’s Be Satanists.”

The Norse gods get up to a lot of shenanigans. But when it comes to gender and trans rights, even *they* know to mind their own damn business.
Comic panel from ValhalLaw:

Eydis (a blonde Icelandic attorney) chatting with Vidar (a Norse god).

VIDAR: May I ask a question about your friend?

EYDIS: Addy? Sure.

VIDAR: I am troubled by their…identity.

EYDIS: Addy doesn’t have an “identity.” They *are* non-binary.Comic panel from ValhalLaw, continued from the last.

Eydis lights a cigarette.

EYDIS: What, you god-types fuck every human, animal, and inanimate object within reach, but draw the line at pronouns?Comic panel from ValhalLaw, continued from the last.

Vidar throws up his hands defensively.

VIDAR: What? No! We’ve never understood why mortals care so much about the contents of each other’s pants.

We change things up all the time, just to keep in interesting. Loki’s even been pregnant once or twice.

I was referring to Addy’s rune. The mark identifies them as a conduit.

The first of this October’s supernatural puzzle-filled events — written by me (and @twocookiesandacoke.bsky.social!) — has been announced! The Seattle MoPop museum’s annual Fashionably Undead event this year is — THE GOOPENING. A tribute to 80s demonic horror films, one of my favorite subgenres.

We’re on the cusp of 5k, which means we’re about to unlock a (free!) concept album, written specifically for this series, by Viking metal band, Odyn! We’re also currently working on a “launch celebration” concert at one of my favorite Portland venues. Comics will break your high E string, kid.

ValhalLaw reached its launch goal in under 12 hours! Y’all are amazing. And we’ve got epic stretch goals on the horizon (What’s that? You dare a kick-ass Viking metal band to record a concept album set in the world of ValhalLaw? Huh.) Thanks to everyone spreading the word. It really does help!

Finally got to catch a @portlandbangers.bsky.social game — beautiful Portland day singing rally cries to the tune of “pink pony club” and chatting up the opposing team’s goalie’s mom. Later, a guy handed me his homemade team fanzine. Semi-pro sports rule, folks. Support them whenever you can.

A cool piece of history I recently found: This Trailblazers trash can was made in 1969, the inaugural year of Portland joining the NBA. Did I pay too much for it? I mean, yeah, it’s a 55 year old metal bucket. Still works great, though.

A black and white drawing of naked Halfling archer, the naughty bits tastefully obscured by a bow, by Adam Markiewicz.

It is the cover of an in-game ‘zine called “Shaft,” written by the Ranger, Fenzo.

Fans praise the ‘zine for its content and art, although many find its competitor “Just the Tips,” a better value for the price. Black and white drawing of a titan barbarian, Motham, standing over a recently defeated dragon (arrow lodged in the beast’s throat), drawn by Igor Grouper.

In game, this was the work of gnome artist Erky Timbers, who inadvertently captured the moment just before the barbarian succumbed to some rather unpleasant gastrointestinal issues.

Late to the party, but for all my fellow horror fans: Heart Eyes was a delight. Very deftly walked the precarious line between romantic comedy and horror, and somehow pulled it off without being snarky or mean. It’s an unusual blend for American cinema, and I’d love to see more of it.

Every table has its own dynamic, and there are very few hard rules for table top RPG gaming. But if a DM uses the phrase “sore winners,” to describe the other players, I’d suggest that everyone in that room is Doing It Wrong.

It’s toward the bottom of the list, but one of the many things generative AI has ruined is low budget horror movie posters. For decades, the art for these films featured some of the most absolute bonkers, amazing images — and now so much is shitty, generic AI slop. I want art like this!

My version of finding golden age comics in the attic is stumbling upon the lost footage of Tarantula Ghoul — host of “Horror House” on Portland’s KPTV from 1957-59. Her band, The Gravediggers, also recorded the hit “Graveyard Rock.” Sadly, she passed with no known existing copies of her episodes.
