Having been a qualifier judge for a few years, I thought I’d enter #Tableau #IronViz this year! High Times, High Companions, and High Spirits is my (very high level) story about the changing tastes of cocktails. I leant into my strengths and drew everything with map layers too! #DataViz

Week 2 #NFL drive chart #DataViz! Did a few visual tweaks and had to deal with random things like whatever the heck the Steelers did with that Seattle kick-off. If anyone has any tips on designing headers and borders then please let me know. I'm terrible at that bit! #DataFam #SportsAnalytics

New favourite chart
Bar chart showing the number of days since teams lost a Premier League home game by two or more goals. Most teams are on less than 100 days (for Man City it's been less than 24 hours, lol). Excluding games played during lockdown, Liverpool have gone 3,467 days since losing by more than one goal at Anfield. Including games played with no fans, it has been 1,465 days for Liverpool, more than four times as long as their nearest rivals (Arsenal on 316 days).

Finally got my #NFL #DataViz dashboards up! The first does single games like my original post below, and the second one does these whole season reviews which incorporate the single games too. And I added a little bit of drive info too. Just in time for the #SuperBowl #DataFam! Links below 👇

I had a go at making some #NFL drive charts! I'm really pleased with how they turned out. I wanted to go with something that felt a bit more minimal (I am forever inspired by @barelymaps.bsky.social) and believe it or not, this was the more minimal version... #SportsAnalytics #DataViz #DataFam

This has been on my mind, is this true? 🤔 Yeah, I feel uncomfortable criticising others work because I often lack knowledge of the context and I know I feel 'attacked' myself the other way around (+still insecure on my skills). I would rather like for us to take a more positive stand 1/6 #dataviz

Some interesting comments & quotes in this post. Personally I see quite a lot of innovation, and people pushing the boundaries of things, but I’m in a relatively small corner. On the criticism, I think this is a side-effect of #dataviz being both inherently creative and a relatively new field.

One of the most surprising things about this is how often a baseball player has held the largest contract. I don’t think anyone would expect that if they weren’t familiar with the history of baseball.

We were amazed by this week’s creative data visualizations. Check out the latest Data Vis Dispatch for ridgeline plots on climate, symbol maps on hunger, and maps on the collapse of the Assad regime. See them all here: blog.datawrapper.de/data-vis-dispat…
Ridgeline plot showing the extent of sea ice in the Arctic every day from 1980-2024. Each line represents the daily anomaly in ice area relative to the 1981-2010 mean. There has been a long-term decline in Arctic sea ice, with fewer and fewer days having normal or excess ice. Barkley and Henry are in another class this season #dataviz #nflsky
Line chart showing cumulative rushing yards for the top 10 NFL rushers through Week 12 of the season. Saquon Barkley and Derrick Henry are highlighted in teal and purple, respectively, with 1,392 and 1,325 rushing yards. Both lead by nearly 400 yards over the next closest rusher, who has 944 yards. The remaining eight rushers are shown in gray, clustered significantly below Barkley and Henry. A label reads ‘Rest of the top 10 rushers’ near the gray lines. The chart has evenly spaced Y-axis intervals from 0 to 1,250 and an X-axis labeled ‘Week’ from 1 to 12. Source: Pro Football Reference.

Even if you’re only planning on using LLMs as an interface for a #dataviz tool this is still a risk too. You might ask for total profit but the LLM might actually get the correct total for sales but tell you it is profit, and label it incorrectly.
