Printed four copies but only three covers. And then messed up the crop/bleed on those covers and had to go back to manual measuring. But I still got two copies stapled and cut! Not bad for ~$7, and the first story I’ve made a hard copy of.

Two fully-assembled and stapled copies of “An Image In Mind” along with an unassembled copy with a too-small cover and another copy without a cover. They are laid out over a paper cutter and a right-angle stapler on a dark wood table.

Hi, this is Ronyo! They've got a power set similar to (but legally distinct from) the mythical Pokémon Mew, particularly the ability to fly. They're also small, like 3 feet from crown to toe. So I imagine they can be lifted pretty high... (Pic by @ryusuta.bsky.social)

Started iterating on a middle-school-aged character and... No. No I'm not okay.

“I know Eric's big and scary right now,” my mom said, “but he’s a loser, and he’s going to grow up to be a loser. This is the best part of his life right now.”

I rolled my eyes. “No,” I groaned, “he’s going to flunk out of high school and get a job with ICE.”

I meant it as a joke, but the way my mom’s face fell… she just stood in place for a moment, staring at nothing. Eventually she sighed. “You’re probably right,” she said, sounding more defeated than I had ever heard her.

It scared me more than anything Eric could have done.

Thinking about how to describe sight to creatures without eyes (but with echolocation)... #furrylit

"Now, imagine a good fruit. Echo will tell us that it is smooth on the outside and firm on the inside. Sight will tell a human that it has a good _color_ and that color does not change over the surface; but they don't know if it's firm on the inside until they take a bite.

"But what about a bad fruit? Echo will tell us it is soft, that there are places beneath the surface that are decaying. A human could not see beneath the surface, but they could see that it has the _color_ of mold and decay. And then?"

Fang chuckled theatrically. "Well, they do the same thing we do. They ask, 'is that fruit bad?' and take a bite anyway."

The pups all yelled, "Eew!" in unison, and a few of the adults chuckled as well.

The transformation categories from the quoted post. The following items have been checked: anthro, animal, species, gender, mental, body part, multilimb/taur, inanimate, latex/drone, mythical, intellectual property, plush, toon, robot, slime, absorb, twin/clone, merge/fusion

000

Ronyo the Windfox @wndfx.link · 30/04/2025

The compromise I ended up with was having the narrator desperately want it but knowing it was impractical:

Screenshot from a story: I rushed forward and started relieving her of her effects. We couldn't risk her transforming while in this armor. As... wonderful as it would have been to watch her true self destroy the trappings of her kingdom, there was no guarantee that the transformation itself would be that powerful. And even if it was, if we ever needed to return to civilization, we would need to be clothed.

Something I'm really looking forward to with Nowhereverse Tales is expanding on the first story of my Ronyo era, RGB, and being able to show moments I glossed over or skipped in the original for the sake of bringing the story to an ending. Will I keep the gratuitous Peter Gabriel quote? Who knows.

And because I'm a dramatic squirrel-spawn, in addition to payment for services rendered (wait 3 business days before cashing please!), here's the key to my apartment. I scraped together the owed rent, but that only takes it through the end of the month. So, as an extra thank-you, help yourself to anything. I mean it. I'm not getting that security deposit back anyway, so throw a rager and trash the place. Is it all so I can quote a song you've never heard because it's from REDACTED's world? Probably. But I mean it sincerely:

You can keep my things; they've come to take me home.

In the immortal words of Detective Ryan Reynolds Pikachu: "Oh, that's a twist. That's very twisty." #furrylit #amwriting

Her smile turned into a sneer. "Oh, I don't mean y'all specifically," she snarled. With a growl she switched to the other language. «You meet one other civilization and think that's it? That you're alone in the universe? You hatchlings aren't alone in this galaxy!»

I'd never been more grateful for having multiple heads than I was then. With my two rearmost I turned around and started hyperventilating, but I kept my center head focused on her.

There was life on other planets.

Hole. Lee. Shit.

Finally writing a Scylla #transformation. Been wanting one of these since… ever. #furrylit

Finally, in frustration, she tried to lift a leg out of the water. She felt it move, felt it breach the surface—

And a slimy, dark-purple tentacle rose out of the bubbles.

Skye screamed and tried to back away, and the tentacle fell back beneath the surface.

She felt it fall back beneath the surface.

“The fuck?” she yelled. In a mix of panic and morbid curiosity, she tried it again, this time with both legs.

Three tentacles rose from the water, and she could feel more beneath the surface.

“Okay,” she breathed, “so I’m an octopus-mermaid now?” She shook her head and fought the burning ache in her arms. “I have got to get out.”
