[sparkling matmul] @benjamingeer i think that isaiprofitable deepseek analysis conflates training and inference; the analysis for a user company is just the latter, and it's a commodity (open weights and many providers, most without subsidies). the training question is "just" about whether this […]

[sparkling matmul] @benjamingeer not really sure tbh. if it were just thinking about today's models' abilities, then the bet would be on deepseek, whose quality is good, inference cost is low and an unsubsidized commodity. but it's hard to know where things are going

[sparkling matmul] as a ✨consultant✨ i see what a lot of companies are doing with llms. mostly what i see are... actually pretty good and effective stuff? good auto-triage bots, auto perf-assessing bots with patches, experienced devs being able to try more experiments. it's not all roses but […]

“pacing the frontier” is such an awkward phrase, the sort of thing an llm would come up with in an attempt to hold back verbal diarrhea

anyway i wish there were more synonyms of type; in most projects i work on, we end up using kind and variant, and sometimes species and subspecies

in programming languages, not everything should be called "context". some things should be called "type"

i live beside a bike path. we used to have more mopeds/scooters taking it, a few years ago; always illegal, noisy, and smelly but kids will be kids. now the illegal thing is e-motos (electric 2-wheelers that can go above 27 km/h); more widely used but thankfully quieter

i wonder if judges chat with an llm while reasoning out their verdicts. i suspect the answer is “mostly not but some of them a lot, probably too much and we talk about them behind their back”

i think i still do not care much about Assisted-By: tags and such on code patches; but i am coming around the idea when it comes to text. i just saw a personal web page in one of my communities that looks to me like it was ai-generated, with a blog whose technical contents were interesting but […]
