Books are like food. No one eats just one type of food, one time, and never feels hungry again.

Have you seen this chart? I first read one of the Watch books, which is why I loved Discworld immediately. Pratchett evolved as a writer so much, the subseries make all the difference.

His books still make me put them down, stunned, thinking "How did he know this?" He worked out more about human nature before the embuggerance took him than entire civilizations do over generations.

He left the world a better place by leaving us his books. They're funny, and I keep having insights into human nature inspired by them. I think others do, too. My husband asked me out because I quoted The Science of Discworld when he was thinking about it :)

My favorite Greebo scene is the one in which he's annoyed that a mouse with wings on was trying to change shape. That just gave him another reason to eat it.

Since its foundation in 1824 the bravery of Royal National Lifeboat Institution volunteers has saved more than 146,700 lives at sea. Hundreds of those volunteers have died attempting to save others. They are the best of us.

She might have borrowed from him and other good writers to the best of her ability. Her idea of cleverness and subtlety was to name a secret werewolf "Remus Lupin."

I think of this every time I remember that my father didn't want women to vote, because men can vote for them, or read holy texts, because men can tell them what they say.

The produce section of major grocery stores don't smell like produce. The fruits and vegetables are too uniform in color, shape, and size to look like something that was alive recently. That's so they can be stacked in neat rows or geometric heaps. Reality becomes AI slop for maximum profit.

In "The Wee Free Men," a parasitic world exists. It's the land of the Elves, which attaches to a more solid one while the Elves terrorize people. Tiffany Aching, a young witch, notices that things look fuzzy if no one is paying attention to them. AI works the same way. #TerryPratchett #Discworld

The Librarian would certainly recognize another book lover, but he'd probably be confused as to why she gave them to children, who would wear out the words by reading them over and over.

I haven't known Dolly Parton personally. Or Terry Pratchett or Bob Ross. Just like I don't know Keanu Reeves personally. Or Ms. Rachel. It's really not that hard to be decent and caring. It takes trust in others, and the expectation that people like to help you become the best version of you.

Feet of Clay for me. It was the first I ever read, and still feels like it's making sense of the world when I reread it. If I've read it too recently, any of the witch books work, too.

"Oh, there is," said Susan. "Delusion, wishful thinking, and gullibility."
"Don't you ever let go?"
"I haven't yet."
"Why?"
"I suppose ... because in this world, after everyone panics, there's always got to be someone to tip the wee out of the shoe."

I'm feeling really silly right now. In "Monstrous Regiment" by Terry Pratchett, the officer hopes to cement his legacy by having an item of clothing named after him. His name is Lt Blouse. His regiment is all women disguised as men. A blouse is women's clothing. I read this before. I just got it.

As I reread Monstrous Regiment by Terry Pratchett, it occurs to me that most women cosplay "Woman" on terms set by men all their lives. They decided to cosplay "Man" on men's terms, and it worked because manliness and femininity are acts. Only another soldier born female saw through it.

The hiver gives you memories that aren't yours. Dromes trap you in dreams they make from your own memories. In The Wintersmith, there are underground creatures that steal your memories. Pratchett covered memories and how they make you who you are from every angle.

The town I used to live in had a perpetually overstocked used book store. You had to wind through stacks to get to fantasy and sci fi. They never had more than one or two Discworld books. When I asked how often they got them, the owner said "All the time, but they sell right away."
